401k account allocations for retirees or about to retire should be no where close that heavy to equities that a 10-20% drop wipes you out "before you have enough years to get the money back".  Sounds like extremely poor planning to me.

it is correct to assess blame and hand it directly to Trump , and those that voted for him , but you also must deliver criticism towards the Democratic Party for not being able to summon a better candidate that had the qualities that could overcome the shortcomings from their last regime’s blunders , policy-wise , that alienated people in the first place and that led to your side losing the Presidential election 

@kcblitzkrieg   Or someone who was buying (very unlikely CD has a 401K and was just buying equities) during Bidens term because he (she/they/etc) was told the economy was doing so well and stocks are at an all time high (which is always a great time to buy) and thought stocks only go up and will continue to only go up.  If he does have a 401k, I wonder if he even knows what it's made up of? Personally, I don't trust my money in a "pool" for management. I'd rather do my own research instead of letting a money manager throw darts at a board or buy what's best for their firms best interest. 

@THEMUGG   It couldn't have been more telegraphed and known what was going to happen. We still don't know the end game. I wouldn't be surprised to see other countries reduce their tariffs (along with the US removing these new numbers) and the democrats will still find a way to cry about it.

 When working, my company allowed us to make 401k changes once a year & then changed it to twice a year. I don't know if that has changed.

I don't think many believed the tariffs levied would be so reckless & people planning to retire this year may not be able to do so.

It's a disaster with no end in sight.

 lmfaooooooooooooo yeah hes got his names on things.  Maybe you should actually look at the history of trumpy instead of just bending your knee like hes some business God. Heres just 1 example of how trumpy gained alot of wealth.  Never actually paying his bills, like on all his buildings where he never paid the contractors and told them to take 50 percent or they could take pennies on the dollar in court.  I could go on and on, but sad part is if Jesus Christ came to your house and told you trumpy was a total fraud, you would kick him out of your house.

 We were never restricted, only limited by choices back in the 80's/90's. Once it went online, we had more choice & 24/7 access. In fact I kept mine at the same institution after retirement.

 I'm not seeing any disaster......yet, at least nothing like Biden. Somebody had to have the balls to do this after so many have talked about it. Trump is doing what he campaigned on. Imagine that. Quite a change from the last admin.

We can rebalance / reallocate weekly if we want to at my place of employment.  Simply log into account online and make the changes.  I would imagine it is pretty easy for the majority of 401k participants.  Not sure when you retired but our program has allowed this for at least the past 5-6 years.  

I also have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that there are people who planned to retire this year and now "may not be able to do so" because of a 10% drop.  Even if their entire net worth is an ill advised improperly allocated 401k, 10% is nothing.  Now 50% drop this year for someone like that I can understand but we are talking about you BOOMERS here...people that should have Home equity, CASH balances, brokerage accounts, diversification, etc.  Idk, maybe I just don't understand.  My old man is a boomer retiree.  SS and very modest 401k.  Personally I could never retire with his current position so I'd put him in the high risk category.  Lucky (or smart) for him his wife still works, has a great job and her 401k and pension will be able to take care of them both down the stretch.  Otherwise I'd be planning on taking care of the old man myself.
