Fed Chair Powell gives starkest warning yet on potential economic consequences from trump tariffs

Powell said “the level of the tariff increases announced so far
is significantly larger than anticipated” and that the lingering
uncertainty around tariffs could inflict lasting economic damage.

With Trump’s tariffs putting the economy on a path toward
weaker growth, higher unemployment  and  faster inflation
— all at the same time!

"Unemployment is likely to go up as the economy slows, in all likelihood, and inflation is likely to go up as tariffs find their way and some part of those tariffs come to be paid by the public," Powell said. "So that's the strong likelihood."

Trump tariffs increase risk of stagflation.  But if he replaces Powell, that could make a bad situation worse.  Prices of stocks and bonds would fall and bond yields rise.  Economist Wolfer warns of a lunatic in charge of asylum moment if Trump appoints someone markets dislike.  Fed credibility is the foundation of international faith in US dollar.

It is amusing watching Trump think he can fire Powell just because he will not do what the KING wants. The FED has two mandates, Trump is wrecking both mandates with his short sided bull approach and then he is mad when Powell says that the FED mandates will not be compromised even with the bully tactics.

Nevertheless, Powell's term is up in May next year, and in a mid-term election year it will then be interesting to see what "lackie" trump installs to do his personal bidding, like he has for AG, cabinet members and numerous Department heads...

 When that time comes if Trump nominates one of his inexperienced talk show host quality candidate, the market will get destroyed. The FED leader needs to be experienced, balanced, disciplined and financially  intelligent. Trump does not seem interested in putting people in positions that meet those terms, it is more about them following his project 2025 agenda.

In an odd twist, I actually hope he does something really stupid like that just 5 months before the mid-terms.

Dems would then retake the House and Senate, assuring the nation that the convicted felon's empire will crash and the new Democratic President in 2028 will un-do 99% of the damage trump leaves in his wake....again.....for the third time in successive republican admins...
