The sanctions have caused major overseas-based chip manufacturing equipment companies to cease supplying key Chinese chip companies, including Yangtze memory Technologies Co (YMTC) and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC), and makers of advanced artificial intelligence chips to cease supplying companies and laboratories.

The Biden administration has initiated plans to replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, the U.S. emergency oil supply that the country is currently tapping into at historic rates to boost the oil supply on the market and mitigate prices at the pump. Meanwhile, President Biden announced Wednesday the U.S. will release another 15 million more barrels from the reserve.

The Department of Energy announced it's beginning a buyback process with a call for bids to repurchase 60 million barrels of oil, or one-third of the 180 million emergency barrels released as Russian President Vladimir Putin wages war on Ukraine. Gas prices were already high before Putin's war, which sent prices at the pump hurtling upward even more.

The US Department of Interior announced Friday it is launching an “expedited” process to potentially change water-flow operations on the drought-stricken Colorado River, as Lake Mead and Lake Powell have fallen to alarming new lows.

Hydropower from the two dams is distributed to customers across eight Western states, according to the Bureau of Reclamation, and the levels of each reservoir are declining so much, experts fear they could stop producing power in the coming years.

The Colorado River system more widely provides water and electricity to more than 40 million people in the West. But the river basin has suffered from the region’s worst drought in 1,200 years.

Small changes like what they are pursuing may help a little in the short term, and realistically that's all anyone could possibly do. But until somebody figures out how to put an end to chronic drought, conditions will get worse.   Drought is the problem.  Not management.

President Joe Biden congratulated House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Republicans winning the House majority and said he is “ready to work with House Republicans to deliver results for working families.”

The Biden administration said on Monday it has approved conditional funding of up to $1.1 billion to prevent the closure of the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant in California, as part of its effort to fight climate change.

The Pacific Gas & Electric plant, which was set to fully shut in 2025, applied for funding in the initial phase of the Department of Energy's (DOE) $6 billion Civil Nuclear Credit program meant to help keep struggling nuclear power reactors open. Diablo is the last operating nuclear plant in California.

The Biden administration believes nuclear power is critical in curbing climate change and wants to keep plants open ahead of the development of next-generation reactors. President Joe Biden wants to decarbonize the power grid by 2035.

The U.S. nuclear power industry's 92 reactors generate more than half of the country's virtually carbon-free electricity. But about a dozen reactors have closed since 2013 in the face of competition from renewable energy and plants that burn plentiful natural gas.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said the grant was a "critical step toward ensuring that our domestic nuclear fleet will continue providing reliable and affordable power to Americans as the nation's largest source of clean electricity."

A crippling freight railroad strike that threatened to upend the US economy
now looks unlikely.

   The House approved two pieces of legislation Wednesday,
one to impose the tentative agreements that members of four of the
8 unions have already rejected, keeping 115,000 rail workers on the job
and averting a strike. The other will require railroads to give hourly
employees up to seven days of paid sick time a year, a key point of
contention in contract negotiations among all the 8 unions.

This settlement is huge if it happens  -  as all Americans should be hoping

Way to go, Dems' Congress is aiming to help American economy. But the newly elected GOP House has put up investigating Hunter Biden, impeaching Pres. Biden and Anthony Fauci as it's top priorities.
