There are basically two types of people in this world..

In that world, you can define "nice" in different ways. I would be the first to point out that you had become fat, but also the first to celebrate if you achieved something nice. Basically, my actions and words aren't affected by how others might feel about them. I don't care if you're sad, happy, or whatever. I say and do what I believe is correct, and then I let you handle the emotions. Does that make me an asshole? Maybe, but I actually don't care and for instance you treat people different because of their race - I have never done that - I treat people different depending on how they behave - and there for instance - I think my "approach" is the nice way to go about things
