Ukraine..What's the Next Step?

Since the other thread got boxed, I opened this one so we can keep this topic alive.

Other dictators are certainly watching what happens next. The sanctions will eventually take its toll but I don't know of a silver bullet that could be used.

Once Putin takes any territory, he's not prone to give it back no matter the financial hit he make personally take. Isolating Russia economically won't be felt for years & hurts the Russian people & just bruises their billionaires. Attacking their investment in the West is certainly a way to get their attention but they are as corrupt as Putin.

Ceasing the export of US software, semiconductors & other high end technology should be on the table. Use the propaganda machine to tell Russian people these economic moves are against Putin & not the Russian people.

In the meantime, continuous economic & military support must be provided to Ukraine.

Finally, make sure it is crystal clear US boots on the ground is not an option.

All the above must be kept up and increased in severity where possible.  Cut them off from most of the world. Rescind trade agreements  and tell Putin to FO!

Targeted cyber-warfare is  probably the biggest gun in the arsenal short of conventional war.  Putin is doing this to Ukraine and attempting to do this to America as we speak.

Just like Putin paid bounties for dead American soldiers (which trump allowed to happen)  I say we pay bounties to any hackers that can successfully take down or infiltrate various aspects of the Putin war regime -- including deleting bank accounts and knocking out military and government communications.   That would be effective and immediate and have the least collateral damage compared with other broad measures.

The ministry claimed that it was open to diplomacy with the US,

The Afghan pullout showed huge weakness!

The Trump administration negotiated a withdrawal agreement with the Taliban while failing to include the Afghan government.

Biden delayed the May 1 withdrawal date that he inherited & ultimately his administration pushed ahead with a plan to withdraw by Aug. 31. Biden abided by the agreement.

You can't rewrite history in an attempt to prove a point. 

This should have never have gone this far, a complete failure. China will easily bail Russia out from any sanctions. 

It's not WHAT you do, it's HOW you do it. Gave up a strategic airbase in the process. Bombed a family gathering water.......

True.   It is widely regarded as a surrender deal to the Taliban, especially when we consider the drawdown to only a few thousand U.S. troops.  Joe Biden had NOTHING to do with that.

And the worst part of that surrender deal Pompeo negotiated was the 13 months advance notice of withdrawal gave the terrorists an enormous amount of time to plot their "blitzkrieg" offensive to completely overwhelm the Afghan forces in about a week. That set the stage for a hastened and awkward withdrawal - and also the deaths of 13 American personnel in the final days.

 Collateral damage during war is horrible. It happens. But frankly, I prefer collateral damage over friendly fire deaths.

Leaving Nam was no picnic either. 

It's definitely on now.  There may be several cyber incursions to our hospitals, gov agencies, military and infrastructure - like our electrical grids.   Our guys have to not only be prepared for this but counter-attack with even wider ferocity at the enemy.
