    ‘Everyone is hunkering down!’
    The affordability crisis is real
          under trump regime

    M.Egan -

    Surging import costs. Mounting payroll and healthcare expenses. A shortage of affordable loans. And a stressed-out workforce. Small businesses are facing mounting pressure from America’s affordability crisis.

    Small businesses are the backbone of the US economy, accounting for the vast majority of total businesses in the nation, nearly half of all employees and the bulk of the job growth.

    I use Amazon to buy some nutritional supplements and have for many years. Black Friday "week" is coming up so I usually try and stock up on some items like Magnesium Threonate and some running endurance products etc. I scanned my last purchase list which was around Prime Day for the same reason and out of four supplements, three were anywhere from 40-70% higher in cost and the one that wasnt had the seller not selling it anymore so I cant tell what that price might have been.

    Americans are experiencing inflation pretty much everywhere, meat prices are high, produce prices are high, gas prices here are still 3.39 my last purchase this week at Costco. No question Trump has been a complete failure to a simple first day fix per his blubbering mouth.

    Maybe it would not be as terrible if he wasnt such a miserable disgusting person..the comment he made about the reporter who died that "I heard lots of people didnt like the guy" who outside of a bumbling brain dead dope says something like that about a person who was cruelly killed and to which we have done nothing about?

    Ah thats just Unkie Trump being himself again...yeah it sure is.

     I'm finding most prices are returning to pre-Biden levels here. I doubt I'll ever see $1.89 gas here again but with the ever-rising gas tax in this state that's no surprise.

    @THEMUGG

     Do you complain about the 20% year over year employer sponsored healthcare increases? Next year my employer sponsored high deductible plan goes up 20%, the lower deductible non-HSA plan will be 30% more. How about pretty much every single item in the grocery store produce section climbing month to month?

    Gas tax is nothing unless you are in Calif or Canada/UK/Europe, they could double it and still not keep pace with the population increases here and the need for road repair and expansion. Where I am at if it is not Costco the prices run 3.49 to 3.69 at places like Chevron or Kroger Fuel centers.

    @wallstreetcappers

      I'm on a company sponsored plan in retirement. Although not the great plan I had while working, it was still a very good plan. My premiums went up about 10-12% each of the first four years, then BAM!........up over 400% under the Biden admin.......with a higher deductible......& yeah, it's going up another 30% this next year. Never thought I'd be looking forward to Medicare, lol.

     WA has the 3rd highest gas tax in the country.....hardly nothing. Our produce up here isn't bad but still hasn't come all the way down to pre-Biden levels yet. The one grocery price that kills me is rib eye steak. Sitting at around $20/lb., I'll only buy it on sale now.

    Desperate Trump has struggled to convince Americans not to worry about US economy.  Many economists disagree with his claim that he inherited a mess from Biden.  According to the Economist magazine, Biden economy was the envy of the world.  GDP growth the highest among advanced economies.  Inflation rate fallen to 2.9%.  Stock market did very well.  Average unemployment rate the lowest since the 1960s.  Biggest gain in manufacturing jobs since the 1970s.

    According to macrotrends.net Just before COVID in January of 2020 showed 12.745 million US manufacturing jobs.

    When Biden left office in Jan 2025 macrotrends.net show 12.755 million US manufacturing jobs.

    Using the huge drop during the COVID shutdown to make such claims is nothing more than credibility suicide. At least to intelligent readers.

    Moody analytics economist Zandi say the fastest way to boost US stagnant job market would be for supreme court to strike down Trump illegal tariffs.

    This is still a possibility although I personally believe that conservative partisanship at SCOTUS will allow it just so der FUHRER doesn't lose any more face....

    US October trade deficit dropped to lowest level in 20 years because Trump administration drove away foreign investment and slowed US economic growth.  The main driver of US trade deficit is foreign investment.  Not other countries trade barriers according to Peterson institute for international economics.  Meanwhile China announces largest  annual trade surplus as more countries seek to diversify away from the US.

    YEP!  He's really making an even worse mess of things than I thought at the beginning of 2025.  Of course he says the economy is BOOMING and we are all getting wealthier because of him, while the affordability problem is just a democratic "hoax"

    Nobel economist Krugman warns that Trump will make Americans poorer.  Historically, international trade has been beneficial for the US.  However US relations with other countries have now turned abusive and the world is moving toward divorce.  Trade deals between European union and India or China indicate Trump stupid trade war is backfiring.
