Truth about Zionism

Israelis remember the bitter lessons of Gaza. Many of Israel's critics ignore them.


Better a bad press than a good eulogy,

 and better still would be a fair press whose sense of history extends beyond breakfast,

 and which recognizes Israel's legitimate security concerns.

Israel is such a tiny country. Without Judea and Samaria, the West Bank, Israel is all of 9 miles wide.

 That's about two-thirds the length of Manhattan.

It's the distance between Battery Park and Columbia University. .

So how do you -- how do you protect such a tiny country, surrounded by people sworn to its destruction and armed to the teeth by Iran?


Obviously you can't defend it from within that narrow space alone.


Take the issue of airspace

 Again, Israel's small dimensions create huge security problems. America can be crossed by jet airplane in six hours

. To fly across Israel, it takes three minutes

. So is Israel's tiny airspace to be chopped in half and given to a Palestinian state not at peace with Israel?

The Jewish state of Israel will always protect the rights of all its minorities, including the more than 1 million Arab citizens of Israel.



 I wish I could say the same thing about a future Palestinian state,


for as Palestinian officials made clear the other day -- in fact, I think they made it right here in New York -- they said the Palestinian state won't allow any person in it


. They'll be person-free -- Judenrein.


That's ethnic cleansing.


 There are laws today in Ramallah that make the selling of land to person punishable by death


. That's racism.

Christian Zionism

Christian Zionism is a belief among some Christians that the return of the person to the Holy Land, and the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, is in accordance with Biblical prophecy.

 It overlaps with, but is distinct from, the nineteenth century movement for the Restoration of the person to the Holy Land, which had both religiously and politically motivated supporters.


The term Christian Zionism was popularized in the mid-twentieth century.

 Prior to that time the common term was Restorationism.

I often hear them accuse Israel of Judaizing Jerusalem.


 That's like accusing America of Americanizing Washington,


 or the British of Anglicizing London.


 You know why we're called "person"? Because we come from Judea.

Jacob and his 12 sons roamed these  hills of Judea and Sumeria 4,000 years ago, and there's been a continuous Jewish presence in the land ever since.

And for those person who were exiled from our land, they never stopped dreaming of coming back:

person in Spain, on the eve of their expulsion;

person in the Ukraine, fleeing the pogroms;

person fighting the Warsaw Ghetto, as the Nazis were circling around it.

They never stopped praying, they never stopped yearning.

They whispered:

Next year in Jerusalem.

Next year in the promised land.

 hundred generations of person who were dispersed throughout the lands

, who suffered every evil under the Sun,

but who never gave up hope of restoring their national life in the one and only Jewish state.

This is the land of our forefathers,

 the Land of Israel,

 to which Abraham brought the idea of one God,

 where David set out to confront Goliath,

 and where Isaiah saw a vision of eternal peace.


 No distortion of history can deny the four thousand year old bond, between the Jewish people and the Jewish land.

If you're not a person.... are the rest of us damned to hell?

It is time for President Abbas to stand before his people and say… “I will accept a Jewish state.”


Those six words will change history.

 They will make clear to the Palestinians that this conflict must come to an end.

That they are not building a state to continue the conflict with Israel, but to end it.

 Palestinians from around the world should have a right to immigrate, if they so choose, to a Palestinian state.



 This means that the Palestinian refugee problem will be resolved outside the borders of Israel.

Jerusalem,


 only a democratic Israel has protected freedom of worship for all faiths in the city.


 Jerusalem must never again be divided.


 Jerusalem must remain the united capital of Israel.



 I know that this is a difficult issue for Palestinians.

Israel withdrew from South Lebanon and Gaza.



But we didn’t get peace.



 Instead, we got 12,000 thousand rockets fired from those areas on our cities, on our children, by Hezbollah and Hamas.

The UN peacekeepers in Lebanon failed to prevent the smuggling of  weaponry.



The European observers in Gaza evaporated overnight.


So if Israel simply walked out of the territories, the flow of weapons into a future Palestinian state would be unchecked.


Missiles fired from it could reach virtually every home in Israel in less than a minute.


Imagine that right now we all had less than 60 seconds to find shelter from an incoming rocket.


 Would you live that way?



 Would anyone live that way?


 Well, we aren’t going to live that way either.

my point is...there's only one planet to sustain our lives...there's enough space for everyone.
