i like van as well...
 
 Hope they have another mid season finger pointing episode..
and puts the pressure on the nucks.. Hope to see the blues win..

You do know he hasn't let in a goal in 2 and a half games and robbed Calgary blind in the third game. St. Louis might get 3 or less goals this series.

CANUCKS for series.
Give me the under in game 1... Unless it's 4.5. It seems like the over 4.5 is the most consistent winner in the playoffs.

Vasko   It's tough being a Blues fan as they always let you down in the long run, but I give you credit for not giving up. I'm in complete shock that they made the playoffs. You should of been in STL in September after Johnson fucked up his knee....everyone was absolutely devastated, but I give Murray credit for cracking the whip and not let any of the guys feel sorry for themselves.

pucksrus   Thx, I'm glad we avoided your team, goalie trouble and all. The Blues still can't figure out a way to stop the Wings offense...they're not alone.
 
OLDPORT    I haven't given up on my team, but I'm looking at this realistically. I think the Nucks can come out of the West if they get some scoring. I am really worried about fatigue with STL. Murray played everybody yesterday instead of giving Mason, Tkachuk, and Berglund a breather. I hope your right about the upset buddy. Decent price.
 
PTW   Originally Brewer was suppose to be back in March, but had a major set back in rehab. I don't think he'll come back this year even if the Blues go deep. However, Erik Johnson is making noise that he would be ready if STL made the conference finals.
 
 
clepto   Not that it matters, but for the record, STL did have the better 2nd half record.
 
STL was 25-9-7 for 57 points
VAN was 24-12-5 for 53 points
 
I didn't check, but I suspect the Canes probably also had over 50 points.
 
 
A few other random thoughts about the series
 
As I stated before, I really think the difference will be the Nucks defensemen. They all have good size and the Blues top 4 wingers are all smallish. None of them (McDonald, Boyes, Perron, and Oshie) are over 6 foot and 200 lbs. That is the reason I don't like putting your 2 biggest and bruising wingers (Tkachuk and Backes) at center. I think Vancouver will and should try to punish the small Blues wingers.
 
You know Kariya wants back in the lineup bad to face his hometown team. The Blues could use the extra skill, but obviously, he is also another very small winger. I would McDonald back to center and reuinite the Kariya-McDonald-Boyes line and move Backes on a line with Tkachuk. The only problem with that is the Blues would still have 2 very small skilled lines to go with their checking line and a huge line of Winchester-Tkachuk-Backes.
 
Demitra and Tkachuk are good buddies and had great chemistry in STL when Pavol centered Walt. Whenever the Nucks come to town, Tkachuk has Demitra at his house for dinner.
 
Any chance Steen and Sundin give each other a smooch in the corner?
 
Ryan Johnson gets to face his old mates as does Mike Weaver.
 
Luongo is hot and doesn't have all the wear and tear on his body as usual because of his earlier injury. Luongo is 30 years old, yet this will be only his 2nd year in the playoffs. He had a great duel with Turco a couple of years ago. I remember that game 7 having a total of 4.5 with the under being juicy!  A ton of guys around here lost that bet with 2 ENG's. 4-1 final if memory serves.
 
Perhaps Mike Gillis and JD have a drink and a laugh over their tit for tat offer sheet signings last summer of Backes and Bernier.

I'll take your word for it. Dropping some games down the stretch made the difference in hottest second half team I guess.

Clepto look it up man Blues gms 42-82 were 25-9-7 for 57 points (tops in NHL) 
NJ gms 42-82 were 27-13-1 for 55 points and they faded down the stretch (2nd in NHL)
Pens gms 42-82 were 25-11-5 for 55 points (3rd in NHL)
Van gms 42-82 were 24-12-5 for 53 points (4th in NHL)

VAN not best 2nd half team in NHL but they will be playing the team that earned that distinction in the first round.

or you could blame the 8 game losing streak to start the second half. you take that away and go from game 50-82 and then Van is the probably the best team. Sry I don't have the numbers there.

I consider the second half after the all-star break. That's why we have the confusion. If you include the losing streak just before the break then no.

I think the Blues score UNDER 8 goals in the series. Luongo is going to be on a mission. It's time for him to make his mark in the playoffs and secure the spot as Canada's #1 come 2010.

OK Figured it out PAS records (only looked at the four teams I posted earlier) VAN 23-8-3 for 51 points
STL 22-8-6 for 50 points
Pens 22-8-5 for 49 points
NJ 22-13-1 for 45 points
 So since the All star break Van has been the best team but again they are playing the second best team so I wouldn't hand them the series yet. It should be a good one unless STL decides that it is happy just to get there. I however don't think this will be the case as Murray would have rested some players on Sun against the Avs and taken the 8 seed if the Blues were "just happy to be there"

......can't seem to picture Sundin hoisting the CUP no matter what team he is on,by now he is usually on his way back to Sweden and,would be again if he stayed with the Leafs.

Nucks should win this but then again St. Louis shouldnt have qualified for the playoffs at all if you consider all the injury problems they had this year, and even without those injuries their roster looks "suspicious" compared to other playoff teams.
Blues were the team with by far the most heart and character this season, and actually there is no reason to think they suddenly stop playing that way in the playoffs. I give them the best shot to take this series to the seventh game out of all big dogs in the first round. If I see such a big dog getting it to game 7, then the pick actually has to be Blues in 7
