However, if it is considered a non violent crime (attempted crim. possession)  he would be eligible for work release as soon as he is processed.

He should've raped someone he would've gotten less time.

I can see the point that he wasnt supposed to have the gun but in this case where nobody was hurt  I dont see the point to put him away for 2 years. Take away his guns and put him on probation. Fuckin ridiculous to make him rot in jail for 2 years.

Or give him 8 weeks for fucking up the last 8 weeks of the Giants season

This story really pissed me off.

When President Bush was in office, citizens who had on anti-Bush "T-shirts" were kept out of his rallys and even arrested (do ur homework and see if I'm wrong), but now AR-15's (semi automatic assualt riffle) are being allowed at political rallies?  W O W.
 
Yes, Burres was treated unfairly for one reason or another.  The problem is most people who feel this way either won't do anything POSITIVE to change the justice system or have realized that they can't affect a change.

New York needs even firmer gun laws, it is obvious that the goofball didnt know the law or care enough to think he would be punished.

You break the law, you serve the time. He shouldnt be carrying a gun in public like that and the punishment is within the boundaries of the law.

I have zero sympathy for an overpaid athlete who thinks they are getting picked on because the law is actually carried out and they are put in jail as any common citizen would be.

The guy is an idiot, add another year for being a total moron.

So, if he had taken a few days to get the gun licensed in NY, he would be walking scot free today.  Only because he didn't, he will serve 2 years in prison.

 

Does that really make any sense?

Yes.

Do we reward stupidity? No.

What does he need to tote a gun around in his pocket in a club anyway?

The guy obviously feels above the law, or is too stupid not to know the law..either way he gets treated as you or I would in the same circumstances.

Dont feel pity for him, he is a moron and maybe now he will learn not to carry around a weapon that got himself injured and can kill others.

Unfortunately he wont learn a damn thing in prison, they should force him to graduate from college before being allowed back to society.

The gun was registered in FL so it wasnt like he bought it out of someones trunk and had no license anywhere for it.

I am a Giants fan but honestly I just dont think the punishment fits the crime here.

I see the point of the law and I see the point that you dont need people everywhere carrying guns but 2 years off a guys life when nothing really happened? You dont get a pause button on life . Once those 2 years are gone they are gone. He shot himself. To give a guy 2 years for this to me is ludicrous.

I just think the sentence is too harsh.

Prison, IMO, is for hard core criminals. There is nothing good gona come out of sending a idiot to this kind of place. He will end up worse then better. He is an idiot and does need to be punished. But theres no way you can sell me on prison. Jail time is one thing, prison is another.

I can't recall where I heard this (they had somebody familiar with the case on one of the local stations), but they said that police strongly believed he'd actually shot somebody in a previous unsolved case. 'Strongly' as in they knew 100%, but didn't have enough evidence to prosecute. Because of that, they went all out to get a maximum sentence when this happened.

Thats right...how can you feel bad for these guys?WTF does he need to carry a gun for?He doesnt have a bodyguard or entourage with guns?

Stat from sportsradio...21% of the NFL have been charged/convicted for crimes anyone of us would do time for...i dont feel bad for any of these guys,theyve been getting a pass for long enough..

Prison games should have as many stars as the NFL by now...

I agree this is "CRAZY", Plac should get about 10 day for having a gun whitout a license. This and  the VICK case is only a big case because the media made it bigger than it should have been. All cases should be treated fair and consistent.

This is true, however... There's also usually a big discrepancy between 'sentencing guidelines' and actual sentences. Since Burress was a first time offender (at least I think he was), it's very surprising he didn't get probation plus community service. Plus, it's also very odd how he gets two years, but Antonio Pierce walks for taking an unregistered firearm across state lines.

Plaxico should have hired some better lawyers...
