Great thread guys.  My one question is this:  Where can I find who the refs are for these games?  Is there a particular site?

I've been playing 3 - 5 NBA games a day this year(first year betting full time) and i'm up a total of about 3 - 5 units a week.  I never bet a game just to have action.  I look games over and do research.  Sometimes I see a spread and just pick it from the gut.  Main thing is I stay consistent and never veer away from my plan, which is to make money and never get too far into debt.  May sound simplistic but that's what I do.

the best way to make $$ in the nba is to take 1 or 2 picks max a night.. if your up 10,000 never ever ever ever throw all your eggs in the basket.. instead of making a daily figure your trying to reach... make a weekly figure your trying to reach. i havent worked in about 6 months and living strictly off betting(trust me i know its dumb) Never ever force a bet cuz you simply want action.. this will throw your whole mindset off and make you 2nd guess your picks. i myself try to hit for $1000 a day.. now if you can limit yourself to 7 plays a week, thats $7000 and $28,000 in 1 month. You get the idea.  It is definitely a marathon and not a sprint.

    Mikado,

What is your process in evaluating which NBA games you will wager on a daily basis?

...I hope everyone will click the link and use the calculator to their advantage, it will definitely help.

and to answer the question of the thread. I have hit 55% over 7 years, 1,000+ plays not including this season. Determine your advantage, reduce the vig, do everything you can to make more money that you can control.

My advice to you is to look at the refs on a game you plan on watching that night.  Be able to distinguish them (you can click on their names as see their pictures here).  By the way, that site has info for every single game so far this year.

I would say they are the single most important factor I look at when wagering any game.  I've bet and won on the Cleveland Cavs simply on this info for the past two days.  Not a very popular section, but still a winner.  It's not always about picking the best team.

Motivation is also a key factor I look at when playing.  The amount of effort given by the players is always a fluctuating element you have to pay attention to game-by-game.  You gotta also be able to identify when teams are going hot/cold before the public really can catch on.

I think I explained a good amount of what I look at when capping games in the above post I just made... but I just thought of something I wanted to add about the officials.

Initially you aren't going to know much of anything about them, so don't let yourself be cocky thinking you know the officials better than you think you do.

You also gotta be actually WILLING to learn the game of basketball and its rules.  Know when refs are making the right/wrong calls by training yourself to have the officials eye.  Be able to spot out the specific patterns some refs will stick to and how it affects the players and the pace of the games.  Lots of times you will see similar crews running games.  Bennie Adams and Bill Kennedy are two that come to mind that always seem to be on the same games.  These guys are very consistent at their play calling style and officiate a lot of games.

More so learn who the not so good officials are as they are usually the games you'd probably want to stay off on depending on their officiating style.   Remember you are looking for consistency.  It's impossible for an official to be 100% perfect they are human - but so to say - some of them come with more errors and deficits than others.

ive been gambling for a number of years now...and go to tell ya..in my opinion.. nba is one of the toughest to cap for alot of reasons.emotion...some take mights off, mysterious endings..etc...

a bookie told me once...nab stands for no bank account.....he honestly told me he loves taking bets from guys that bet nba. he kills them. that being said..i have found a cpl guys on here tha are worth there salt in capping: tin..i will say has a great hold on it and ive followed him religeously.

all the smack that is talked at him and about him...ha..he makes money....he can post any record he wants the only tally i want to see is positive bankroll or not. he gets it and does a fine job capping.he doesnt lay out the pick like lots but he is definitely not guessing..lol...

good luck to you..i am doi9ng well following the quality cappers on here.

Thank you sir.  Can you please elaborate real quick on the refs that raise red flags for you.  Which refs do you stay away from?  Also, which refs send players to the line a lot, or favor offensive superstars?

    Mikado,

First off there is never more than 2 or most 3 games a night that i feel strongly about. (Its usually 1 or 2) Second, I NEVER read what anyone says on any forum, I make all picks before looking at any sites. Third, I look at teams that should win SU then look at the spread and i stay away from high point spreads, I prefer to wager on teams +/- 4 or less. My preferred games are +/- 2 or less.  Take a moment to track your wins/losses depending on the point spreads and you will see a wide range of results on the higher point spread games, teams just dont show up on a consistent basis.  I am  capping games at a 53-54% clip(this is viewable under My Space I only point this out so you can see that I am not talking out of my ass), this is my first year consistently tracking my investments and I also utilize my own spreadsheet this way I can clearly see my results and adjust accordingly.  Its much easier to lose money if you are not tracking results, I find everytime i fill in my spreadsheet and there is a back to back loss my evaluation process is 10 times more focused.  Its human nature to drift from your plan once you start picking a few wins in a row.

not hijacking. I'll stop posting in here though. It's obvious that no one wants to talk about the intangibles to betting. What the bettor can do outside the game to turn more profit. That's fine, I tried.

like you i tend to stick with basketball / football

but over the summer i got into baseball

one major problem is betting on the NBA every day.   Ive learned the key is to not force bets, its not a big deal to take a night or two off....plus it gives u the chance to step back and take a general look at the league rather than playing games everynight because youve been winning and you think you know whats going to happen..

making money on NBA can be done, with good money management and limiting your plays it can be done.
I used to make 4-5 plays a day and never really made much money
But in the last few years I just make 1 wager a day, now I know some of you will think this is boring or a slow process but it can work.
also the points that CMM and kap made in this thread are great
