chilli pepper are WAYYY over rated. all the world needs is another white funk band. Blood Sugar was a good album, but after that....blah.
and i agree Pumpkins are wayyyy overrated too. although everything they put out up to and including Pisces Iscariot was stellar, then Corgan became a whiny bitch when the cash started rolling in. You can add soundgarden to that category too.

The Rolloing Stones. Sorry. I just really never have understood what the lure is. They suck.
gimme shelter, jumping jack flash, satisfaction, sympathy for the devil, can't you hear me knocking, it's only rock n roll, miss you, monkey many, you can't always get what you want, , street fighting man, memory motel, dead flowers, sister morphine, lets spend the night together, heart of stone
These are just the commercial hits, the songs you would never hear, show how talented the jagger/Richard combination is. Jagger is the greatest frontman in rock n roll history, and Richards is the first true rock n roll image of drugs,
Watch cross fire hurricane on hobo, and then you will understand why they are The Greatest Rock n Roll Band in the World

I can't believe no one has mentioned AC/DC. Even during my heavy metal listening days of the 80's I couldn't listen to that band. Nails on a chalkboard.
I never got into Pink Floyd. They just tried to be too esoteric for my taste. They always had that "we know something you don't" attitude about them, although I suspect they never did.
Some of Tom Petty's earlier music was fun, but the more serious/philosophical he tried to be, the worse he sounded. Very overrated considering he was hanging out with the likes of George Harrison and Roy Orbison at his "peak."
Smashing Pumpkins were the worst of the grunge era bands. If your singer can't sing, then you suck. Billy Corgan thought his nasally whiny assed voice was avant-garde, but it was just nasally and whiny.
And last but not least would be David Bowie. He gave glam rock a bad name when it never had a good name to begin with. It should be of little solace that his music influenced Adam Ant.

Kiss like so many others success is based on a 2 or 3 albums or years circa. If you think about it most bands are famous for a certain time period or trend of music. Kiss for example big break mainstream wise was their first live record (Alive) which they admit was anything but.
