    Best run differentials in baseball...

Seattle +40....surprising as they are 4-6 in last 10...

Tampa Bay +40...5-5 in their last 10...cooled off a bit...

Arizona Diamondbacks +29...8-2 in last 10, tied with 2 others at that number for hottest teams in baseball right now...Colorado and the NYY are the other 8-2 teams in their last 10...

New York Yankees +29...In spite of all the injuries...amazing...

LA Dodgers +28...7-3 in their last 10 games...

Runner up teams...Houston +24...St. Louis +22...Minnesota and Chicago Cubs at +17...

    Worst Run Differentials in baseball...

Baltimore Orioles... -52...3-7 in last 10...

Miami Marlins.... -51...4-6 in their last 10...

Boston Red Sox... -32...and amazingly 5-5 in their last 10...

Dishonorable mentions...K.C. Royals -22... Detroit Tigers and NYMets at -20...

    Is Arizona hot...?...

Or did they just play a very bad Pirates team....?...

The Pirates have played 24 games...record is 12-12...doesn't seem TOO bad on the surface...BUT....

In those 12 losses...average runs scored per game is 2.08...
In those 12 wins...average runs scored per game is 4.33...

In those 12 losses...3 shutouts...only ONCE did they score 5 runs in a loss...

In those 12 wins...their maximum runs scored was 7...that was ONE time...and in only 6 of the wins did they score 5 or more runs...

Team batting average is .229 with a .661 OPS...

They are 3-5 in one run games...

They came off a 5 game winning streak where they outscored their opponents 19-11... and now have a 6 game losing streak where they have been outscored by their opponents 39-11...

I’ve been watching Pittsburgh batting and took advantage of it tonight with Dodgers -1.5 and large play on Pitt TT under 3.5

They have been especially bad against left handed pitching which is why I took advantage of it tonight against Ryu. Thinking about trying again tomorrow with Kershaw. 4 straight games with 2 runs or less could be a 5th tonight

    Highly probable...

The Pirates are a pretty bad offensive team...

I say answer to your question .. Pittsburgh isn’t bad. Isn’t good .. they are just average.. they are like the giants they will win with pitching and defense if they do.. but they have a lot of guys out.. Dickerson and marte are two of there best hitters outside of Bell.. they have so many injuries and a bad bullpen.. but they are literally like a 82-80 team

Rockies on the other hand .. are the real deal ... not Arizona.. even when the Rockies got off to 3-12 start before pulling off 9 of there last 11.. probably the best young pitching staff in baseball freeland, Marquez, sensa, wolf is back to form off 3 good starts .. improved pen.. and they got dahl, McMahon, Murphy back from injuries ... look out for Colorado I think they win that division ..

    Your Sunday run differential plays...

    Teams playing the bottom 3...

    Philly (+10)....playing Miami (-54)
    T.B. Devil Rays (+41)...playing Boston (-33)
    Minnesota (+24).... playing Baltimore (-59)

    Others...
    NYY (+31)....playing S.F. (-14)
    LAD (+30)...playing Pittsburgh (-20)
    Seattle (+27)...playing Texas (-2)....borderline?...
    Houston (+25)...playing Cleveland (+4)
St. Louis (+25)...playing Cincinnati (+13)....borderline to me...

Obviously, Seattle is on a bit of a slide having recently been over +40...Texas always has the capability to score runs so might be a tricky selection...

    Hi,

I'm sorry if anyone finds this is an inappropriate question.  Where do you guys recommend I go to get that run differential data?

    Thanks in advance.

If you faded the bottom 3 run differential teams...you went 3-0...

If you played that list below the bottom 3...including the borderline ones...you went 7-1....

Somehow...you had a very, very good day...

    Four selections noted for today...

    T.B. Devil Rays (+44) at K.C. Royals (-22)
    LA Dodgers (+31) at S.F. Giants (-20)
St. Louis Cardinals (+28) at Washington Nationals(+2)
Cincinnati Reds(+10) at NY Mets (-19)

In my view, the Devil Rays and the Reds have significant pitching advantages as well...

POD would be the Devil Rays..

Great stuff Smack... always remember you mentioning run differential  as a tool for you but very informative to see it tracked along with whose trending hot/warm/cold etc....Im looking at the same #'s for today, was looking at the teamrankings site which also shows the run differential for:
    *Last 3
    *Home/Away
(I used both also with good success betting nba 1q's last year but this year it didnt work consistently the times I kept up with it)

Thanks for the efforts...diggin it here!

Happy to do it...always looking for an angle in baseball as it is so dang hard to be consistent...

    Cincy wins as a +140...
St. Louis wins as a +120...
The Devil Rays look to be about to win as a -160...
0-0  in the Dodgers game but I do like their chances...

Solid chance to go 4-0 tonight...

One that I regret not posting...

Baltimore (-62) at CWSox (-15)...the White Sox won...

The only reason I didn't take it was I kind of have it in my mind that I wanted to avoid taking teams with negative run differentials...

Dumping that as a bad idea...basically, fading Baltimore in almost every game this year will be a +EV action...

Plan on that from now on...

Little bit premature on that CWSox statement that they won...had accidentally looked at another score...

    But they look strong...

3-1 tonight on posted plays...LA Dodgers get the loss as a -155 favorite...

Overall 10-2 over 2 days......should actually be 11-2 as I should have posted the CWSox over Baltimore as a play...won't miss it again...Baltimore will be an auto fade the rest of the season most likely...

Going to be interesting to see how this plays out this year...

Two plays for sure so far for tomorrow...

    Cleveland (+1) at Baltimore (-64)
    CWSox (-13) at Miami (-58)

Will be adding as the numbers are updated in the morning...

    Quite the additional list today...

    T.B. Devil Rays (+47) at K.C. Royals (-24)
St. Louis (+31) at Washington (-1)
    LA Dodgers (+30) at S.F. Giants (-19)
    Philadelphia (+14) vs Detroit (-23)
    Cincinnati (+11) at NYM (-20)

This next batch is borderline in my book but WILL still be counted as plays for the system as they meet my criteria...

Oakland (-8) at Boston Red Sox (-33)....Oakland on a 3-7 skid...
Texas (+11) vs Pittsburgh (-21)...Pirates with a big pitching advantage today...

This last one will NOT be counted toward the record as it falls outside of the system because both teams have (+) run differential numbers...

Chicago Cubs (+26) at Seattle (+14)...Seattle on a bad slide going 5-5 recently and losing over 30 in the run differential number in the last week...

    Best of luck today!

    Just to clarify...

I'm developing and modifying this "system" as it goes along...

Couple of the rules I have developed so far...

    1.  Don't play two teams with positive run differentials no matter how big the run differential gap.
    2.  Do play teams with negative run differentials.
    3.  High emphasis on teams with greater than 20 run differential gap difference.
    4.  Ignore last 10 game record.

The last one on that list is one I am considering modifying next, however, I want to get a decent sample size of the system in this current format.

If you think of any possible changes that might be beneficial, let me know...

Of course, you probably want to modify your plays based on pitchers/starting lineups as usual...but I'm very curious as to if I can develop a "dummy" system to just play for the season with a +EV...

As you all know, baseball capping can be VERY time intensive...

Doing a bit of research today to maybe find other criteria to apply to the system...

Was watching a bit of that Seattle game...couple of tidbits came out about how bad of a fielding team they were....

The average errors committed this year in all of baseball is 17...fielding percentage average .984...

Seattle is the worst in all of baseball with 37 errors and a .968 fielding percentage...

Next closest is the Chicago White Sox with 24 errors and a .974 fielding percentage...

Seattle is so bad...it's worth figuring in as a capping feature...

On the surprising side...the K.C. Royals are the best in baseball  with only 8 errors and a .992 fielding percentage.

Milwaukee is second best with 9 errors and .991...
