Severino just had almost a full year off, and now out again. He is starting to look like a hard-luck kid. He has not even played long enough to be into the big bucks and may never get there. Too many guys don't realize how hard it is to finally win the war of attrition from 7 years old on, have the world by the tail, and see it all go south in a heartbeat. Best Of Luck to him.

Yankees signed him for 4 years 40 mil contract, last year, so his first 2 years of that contract will be payed by the insurance company.
I dunno what happened to him, maybe it's because his hard throwing, but when he came to camp he was ok, until he threw his changeup and felt some pain, it's a pity cause the potential is there.
Btw, Paxton had to get surgery earlier this month and will be out at least until May, so Happ and his 17 mil FTW

I don't know how much of a buyer they will be, it will depend on how the team looks nearing the trade deadline, but losing Sevy for the season is a huge blow. Before everybody reported to camp, the possible starting 5 looked like this:
Cole, Tanaka, Paxton, Severino, Happ.
Now Sevy is out, Paxton should return somewhere in May, although who knows how much he will need to get into form after the surgery. Many kept wondering why keep Happ with that big salary, but i guess Cashman knew Paxton may need surgery. If nothing else happens, the Yankees are now down to:
Cole, Tanaka, Happ.
The other 2 spots will probably be shared between Montgomery, Loaisiga and Cessa, probably combined with the bullpen, because German is suspended and will be eligible to play on the 5th of June, the earliest, also he isn't allowed to take part in Spring Training.
The season hasn't even started yet and injury wise it looks like a continuation from last year, for the Yankees...

Not to worry. Any day now we will see the first "The Yankees are LOADED" post and guys that love the lineup will inflate their prices all year, pitching or no pitching. I agree with sac, signing Cole was extremely important, but that only covers one of five days. Cole should get 20+ wins, but that is a far cry from winning the division, league, or World Series. Even Cole, with his rep, will be overpriced. Folks will point to the bullpen, but the bullpen does not score runs and is mainly useful if you can get through 6 innings with a lead. 5 inning overs are a definite possibility.

Everybody is so worried about the person Yankees!! Who cares.. their pitching now is horrible. Look out for the twins again this year. Adding Josh Donaldson is a huge addition to a lineup that is all ready the best in baseball. They proved it last year by winning the division and hitting the most homeruns any team has ever hit in a season. then they add Kenta Maeda to their pitching staff to go with Berrios, Oddorizzi, Pineda, Rich Hill. The Twins are no joke!

1. The thread title is "hotstove". I don't think anyone is worried about the Yankees here, we're just sharing information and talking about it.
2. I see 2 quality starters on that list. Berrios and Oddorrozi. The Dodgers could barely get 4 innings per start out of Maeda. Rich Hill is starting the season on the IL. He's 39 and they think he can pitch by June. Pineda definitely improved in the second half of the season. He's on the right path for sure. The Twins also signed Homer Bailey
