This kid throws gas, 97 to 99 easy. His mph isn't too deceptive though and that's why guys have been getting a piece of his fastball. If he could learn how to hide the ball better during his delivery he'd be deadly.
The Cubs have never seen him. They have the 9th worst BA vs power pitchers and strike out once per 2.76 PA's against them. The Cubs do walk a lot, they don't swing at everything. Hopefully Laz Diaz can help getting us a cheapy cause he is the blindest ump in the majors.
The Cubs drafted this kid, I think he should have incentive to show them what they gave up on.

All fishing, no drinking. Caught some giant smallmouth out on Sturgeon Bay Lake Michigan. It was a nice break from everything, didn't listen, watch or read anything baseball or sports for that matter. When I got home and heard on espn that the Yankees lost 7 games in a row, I smiled.

The average K rate of all those dudes combined is 21.74%, Sonny Gray's is 32.9%. The only guy of the 8 that is over 30% is Triston McKenzie, young kid with nasty stuff. He got only 5 K's vs the Cards, but he's young, and has had only 2 starts in the bigs.
Sonny has a lot going for him today. On 4 days rest his SO9 rate is 13.50 giving up a .147 BA. At home he's striking out a batter every 2.47 PA's. The Cards are using 5 lefty's, but Gray allows a lower BA and OPS vs them then righty's. At night, his SO9 is 12.6 giving up a .157 BA. UMP Will Little has a career 22.1% K rate. This year he has averaged 19.5 K's per game, 8th highest of all umps. His walks per game are super low at 5.8.
