I'm bored and I just heard a discussion on the radio about athletes that have a reputation for choking.  I'm not talking a one time melt down like Gary Anderson in '98 for the Vikings or J. Van DeVelde at the British, but someone who has a penchant for not being able to get it done when it matters most.

I'll throw out a few easy ones:

    Sergio
    Ovechkin
    Rod

Tony Romo has been known to "not come through" in close games. Besides throwing a late INT remember the playoff game in Seattle when he botched the hold?

I know Greg Norman won a few majors but couldn't get that elusive Green Jacket.

I think he was 2nd to Nicklaus in '86.
In '87 he lost out to Larry Mize in the playoff (It was a great shot by
     Mize)
In '96 he blew the lead against Faldo on the back 9.
'96 might be the only time he choked but he was right there for the
     other ones as well.
These are the ones off the top of my head.

Cross arod off the list because for all the garbage playoff performances he was a huge part of the 09 champ team and that's all that matters. This coming from a yankee fan who does not like him. Still, he performed that year. Cancels out the others

If you listen to Sergio Garcia, it becomes very clear that he's very happy with the life he's living and is not nearly as obsessed with winning as his detractors are. I kind of appreciate him for that.

Van de Velde's meltdown at The Open is still the biggest one time choke job I have ever witnessed. As he made error after error on the 18th, it became hard to watch, but you couldn't turn away.

Van de Velde's meltdown at The Open is still the biggest one time choke job I have ever witnessed. As he made error after error on the 18th, it became hard to watch, but you couldn't turn away.

may be fine with things which is to his credit but... guy still has a history of folding

Serge is a mental case & that is why.......................Sergio Garcia will never win a major.

How about George Karl, or the Denver Nugs under George Karl?

I don't think you compete at that level and then say it's not a big deal when you can't get it done somewhat regularly.  Obviously, hes' not as obsessed with it as Mickelson was (before he won a major).

As for the Mailman, he delivered in the playoffs (avg. of 25 and 11 and had some monster years).  His teams were the chokers IMO.

Rivers is a good one.  Norman has to be there as well.

    How 'bout Jim Kelly?

Mitch Williams and Byung Hyun Kim come to mind as pitchers who had AWFUL world series.
