What is the best US state to live in

ummmm as i read report yopu would l;ike to live in North Dakota 

Someone said hurricanes... Our last one was in 2005 I think with Wilma. We had like 3 days to prepare/get out of town. If hurricanes are your only natural disaster then your doing alright

Having spent 70% of my lifetime here, I may as well be a native. But when you are on the road and there are thousands of late model Toyota's on the road being driven by the worst drivers on the planet, Haitian women, who do not abide by not only the rules but common courtesy of the roadways. Right of Way, Left lane for passing, cutting off, etc., The worst. Then they go to their jobs generally in the service sector and immediately bring the overall quality and experience down. Come visit our leading super market chain Publix and visit their deli. You will see what I mean.

Do you have any idea the wretched scum island these people come from? They don't leave that and come here, they bring that stench with them. The horrors.

I am almost 70 years old and have lived most of my adult life in either the NASA area of Houston, Texas or Las Vegas, Nevada with short times (2 year or less) in Pensacola (US Navy) and Daytona Beach (college), Florida along with Lansing, Michigan and Pittsburgh, PA (employment). also worked some out of both LA and SFO, California BUT wasn't a resident. used to commute out of Las Vegas to fly my trips when I was based there with the airline I worked for

I have to say that I have enjoyed living in Las Vegas the most because of our freedom to do damn near whatever you want. gambling is legal which eppeals to me as a sports bettor and it's a "24 hour town". NO state income tax and the cost of living esp housing is relatively low. GREAT place to retire and it is excellent for singles of all ages. AND we get NO tornadoes, hurricanes or other violent weather. yes it is HOT in the summer BUT "you don't have to shovel heat" like the winter snow in Michigan or PA.

the one detraction is we are NOT a good town for families with school aged childern because the Clark County school system STINKS and although are cost of living is still relatively low, it is no longer the "free-be" town it was when my wife and I first moved here in 1990. we used to eat out almost nightly because it was cheaper to go to a $5 buffet or get a $7 steak dinner than fix something at home BUT the stupid corporations now have food & beverage as a "profit center" in their casino-hotels and a freeking buffet is usually $15 or higher while a good sitdown dinner will run upwards of $30 or more

still I would NOT trade it for anywhere else

I've only lived in 3 states: NY, PA, and MD. Of those 3, I go with PA every time. Easier on the taxes. Mostly rural. Southern PA weather is hella nice, compared to upstate NY and MD. Unfortunately I'm stuck in MD for the foreseeable future. In a perfect world, I would retire in the mountains of NC. Just my 2 cents.

college gambler: There is absolutely nothing I like about your state of NJ. I think the only people that like Jersey, are from Jersey. Nothing against you bro, you're cool as chit in my book.

The extreme heat and humidity of the summer.  Make it impossible to do most activities outside during the day.  Even going to the beach gets too hot when it is 90 and the dew point is 82.

Which are also highly overrated.  Lots of traffic, no parking, insanely high taxes, etc.

Every single person who has actually lived in Florida has seen a snake.  And not just a small measly garden snake, but large ones too.  As a matter of fact, my dog just bit a 3 foot long, in inch in diameter one in half last week.  But not before getting bit on the mouth and leg.  The dog was dripping blood for most of the night. 

Some place with a mix of at least some of these: good weather, low unemployment, and no state income tax.  So, Washington, Texas, or Florida.

Yea people hate Jersey for whatever reason.. besides it being expensive i don't see why ppl hate it.. the jersey shore is great and we have the second best food in country... only better food is in ny

The Garden state hands down, we do have few to many Jose's living here already but that said " The thing north of Jersey is Gods country". And I don't mean Staten Island!"

beautiful place and wonderful weather BUT cost of living is MURDER

Not to mention that everybody I knew that lived there got Island fever after a while. 

Wyoming.  The fewest people and a large area means you rarely run into people--including criminals and cops.

I'd love to live somewhere near the Redwoods in Ca., but you're out in the middle of nowhere.

Maybe Chico, a badass lil city a few hrs from the Bay area, Reno, Redwoods. 

California i guess, and just to find a cozy  little place  on the beach ocean 

Without a doubt, Michigan is the best state. You've got beautiful downtown Detroit and You've got TerroristTown USA in Dearborn.

A few too many damn rednecks and the laws are archaic

I didn't read all 56 posts but I wouldn't imagine Louisiana was any of them. Here is a study done by Harvard researchers listing the "Five Happiest Cities in the United States. All five of them are in Louisiana.
