I'm 60, yesterday a 27-year-old woman smiled at me... And then her guide dog bit me.
Friday I visited one of my customers who has promised a joke every time I deliver his food. His name is Captain Gus & is a 78 year old former charter fish captain.
He got a phone call last week & a guy tried to sell him a coffin.
I asked how he responded.
He said "I told him a coffin is the last thing he needs."
The captain is still pretty damn sharp.

MN1, read the story in the Gen Pop forum about your girl giving you the side-eye about your tipping. Her being a midwestern gal was just being careful that the "NUT" was gonna get covered!!
. Playing the Woodbine/Churchill card and watching NCAAF with a few ducets on unders! Enjoy the weekend. Elbows up!!

Most people are not brave. But that doesn't make them a coward either.
In many cases they react to an emergency without considering their own safety.
In some it's instinctual.
How about you?

Just read that the Quarterdeck Bar & Grill on Las Olas & A1A (the beach is across the street) closed after being in business 30 years. You can't beat the location. Many who have visited Fort Lauderdale have certainly frequented the place. The Fish House in Delray (I would sell them mahi caught while fishing) is closing after 12 years because his high end meals like $44 for a grouper sandwich & fries has dried up. People no longer will pay extravagantly on his oysters, clams & octopus.
A local Smokey Bones closed; Lucille's in Weston closed after 26 years; Undergrounds Coffee House closed after 19 years. There are other closures but you get the point. Increased rent & labor costs are the most common reasons for closure.
Are you seeing similar closings in your neck of the woods?

Fortune reports that LAYS, owned by PepsiCo, is giving their brand a makeover reminding consumers that their chips are made from potatoes.
They quote a poll taken in 2021 where 42% of Americans didn't know their chips were actually made from potatoes.
I wonder what these dumb shits thought they were eating. They shouldn't be allowed to procreate.

I've seen the name "STRAUSS" plastered on both sides of the batting helmets used during the MLB playoffs.
STRAUSS is a German manufacturer of workwear, safety foot wear & protective equipment.
Seems odd that America's Pastime couldn't find a US based company wanting the chance of promoting their brand during the games.
I never heard of STAUSS before the games.
I know them now & I think many other Americans know them now as well. It's all about the money.

I was on hold for 32 minutes with Florida Sun Pass but the "on hold" music was relaxing & soothing. They try to calm the frustrated customer who has been hold awhile.
Smart. Very smart.
However, they still do suck!

"Open carry" became legal in Florida about 3 weeks ago. "Open carry" means you can publicly carry a legally owned firearm that is kept in plain sight or partially concealed, usually holstered.
Our largest grocery chain, Publix, announced it will allow shoppers to "open carry" in their stores. Being a betting man, I expect at least one shooting before Thanksgiving in a Publix store. "Give me that last can of cranberries you SOB!" BOOM!
Now I expect reasonable gun owners such as myself won't flaunt their new accessory but you know some knucklehead will. There are groups of people boycotting stores by filling up their shopping carts with frozen goods & abandoning their carts throughout the stores. They are doing the same thing with expensive meat & fish. They hope the products will be thrown away or at least cause manpower allocated to restock the items.
"Cleanup on Aisle 5" may have a new darker connotation.

I was recently asked "What's the last thing you did for the first time" & it got me thinking.
For me, it was 2 weeks ago when I took my wife bowling after being together for 36 years.
Give it some thought. You still have time to do something for the 1st time.
Or maybe not....

@Raiders22
It was the first time bowling together. She bowled at Michigan State with friends & when I got back into the country, I bowled in a neighborhood league.
However, when we met in Florida we did outdoor sports like swimming, fishing, tennis & golf but never bowling. She beat me 142 to 127 & we had a blast. The next thing we are going to try is to get a ride in the Goodyear Blimp which isn't usually opened for the general public. We have a connection with Goodyear through our volunteer work at Wheels On Meals so we'll see if our connection can make it happen.
Try something for the first time with your bride or a good buddy. New experiences can be tons of fun.

@Midnight1
You guys should join a league. It is big time fun!

My sister was the sponsorship coordinator for one of the big fairgrounds that did fairs, rodeos, RV shows, etc.
She went up in the Goodyear blimp one year when they had it there. She said it was awesome!

In a nutshell, Germans just make quality shit. And they, along with a other EU contries, and Japan, and Korea, have really been successful in the high-end niche manufactured goods market. And that's really where we have missed the manufacturing boat in this country. We are never going to compete with China in the cheap Chinesium goods market but high quality goods present opportunity to bring manufacturing back to the country. And Germans are at the helm. I have a lot of German tools. I have a bunch of power tools made by a German company called Festool that are amazing. I have tools made by Fein including two of what are referred to as "Fein tools", which are oscillating multi-tools, one of which is older than me. Still works great. I have a bunch of German hand tools too. I have a ton of Americans tools too but Getmany just makes quality stuff. It's not shocking the majors are buying batting helmets from them.

Awesome story! We need to start bowling. Neither of us is very good so it would be fun.
