School cancels Senior Prom rather than let a lesbian couple attend

It is Mississippi.... Having had family there going back to the 1700's (have lived in FL all my life) Miss is backwoods. I could only imagine when a gay couple wants to go together the lynch mob will be out for that one. Sorry guys this is par for the course in Mississippi 

 Maybe what the school admin is doing is necessary for the safety of the two utes in question. I hope it's not because they don't want all the other kids "exposed" to an alternative lifestyle. That would be counter-productive ............living in denial doesn't help anybody learn that this really goes on in life, right in your own town........not just in books & movies. I mean, these kids probably already knew about these two..........wouldn't you think? Then again, I hear what some of you are saying about the south so maybe not......

Mississippi should really be closed down and vacated...force the people there to come into the 21st century....or a wall put up around their precious southern soil...

When I was in 5th grade, we wen't rollerskating where girls danced with one another.

I suppose they worry about the sexual component....well, at my prom, you didn't stick your tongue down your date's throat until AFTER the dance.  They should hold the lesbians to that same standard. Just cuz they are lesbian, I'm sure they assume they will start feeling each other up on the dance floor.

Instead of looking at it as a distraction, why not look at it as a teachable moment.  It's like people think others are going to catch the "homosexual disease" or something.  I still can't believe how ignorant people are. 

So when you're walking into a store and your kid sees two guys holding hands or with their arms around each other and asks you what that means, do you turn around and go back to your car and tell your kid, "oh, it's just a distraction?"  LMAO.

For those of you are getting a bit offended for people who are dissing the south, try not to take it personally.  Let's face it, you do run into more rednecks in the south then the north.  It's just fact.  There are plenty of stupid people in the north too...don't get me wrong.

But I've traveled in the south.....some of this stuff is not just stereotypical....there is SOME truth to it.

Oh, what nonsense, although I'm sure the same kind of thing happened about 40-50 years ago (or maybe less), only it involved a mixed race couple.  We are making some progress anyway.

Having lived in the South (somewhere) for about 70 of my 72 years I will admit that many of the stereotypes are true and have learned to not worry about those people NOT from the South that think that they are true of everyone from down here.  We are more tolerant than many think.  When I was in the Navy in 1956 I met this man from NJ who was planning to be a priest who asked me "Do they REALLY have Catholic churches in ARKANSAS?"  I assured him that they had some of the largest and best churches, he had difficulty believing it.  And to those that asked "Do people in the South have shoes?" I assured them that this pair that I got in boot camp was absolutely the first shoes I had ever had.  You have to laugh and go along without being insulted.

No shit.  I personally think that there isn't really a correlation between sexuality and political ideology.  There is however a correlation between sexuality/political ideology and happiness. 

Gay liberals move to San Francisco and go on to live very happy lives.  Gay conservatives beat themselves up and turn into self loathing homophobes.

I'm fairly certain that Tideman really wants to sleep with another dude, even if he won't quite admit it...even to himself.  If you really were straight, you wouldn't feel "threatened" by gay marraige.

If you're gay, you almost can't help but lean to the left.  They tend to be more "gay friendly" in terms of their platform.  That doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of gay conservatives.....they probably believe in the conservative economic platform and don't really worry about gay marriage becoming legal, etc.  They probably make pretty good money...and maybe don't really care as much about some of the social agenda of the gay community.  Just my take. 

But I would be shocked if the number of gay people who were liberal was under 80-85%. 

And I never understood how being around a gay person made someone uncomfortable.  They might think you are hot, but they would never even think about hitting on a straight person.  Half the time they do certain things on purpose just to make a person uncomfortable (because they know they are a homophobe). 

They are as interested in hitting on a straight person as you are interested in hitting on a gay person.  FACT.

These people live in their own bubble of self loathing.  They dont realize that the rest of us dont care who sucks whos dick, or who is fucking who.  It is irrelevant.  It never crosses our minds.  I care as much about who fucks who or who gets married as I do what music you listen to or how you comb your hair.

The people who usually care are the ones who are aware of the fact that they have these confusing feelings, and respond by outwardly hating what they have come to be so confused about.  The rest of us dont even think about it, it just isnt on our radar - and it is confusing to us why it is such an issue to them - why they even care - or why they think the response quoted above would be insulting to us.

I dont understand the problem with getting hit on by a gay person anyway.  They are just another category of people you might not be attracted to, like fat people, skinny people, blondes or brunettes, or big boobs or small boobs.

If you get hit on by a gay guy, and you arent attracted to him, just tell them or act exactly the way you would if it was a woman you werent attracted to.
