I'm not saying its a travesty, just saying I'd have checked to see if the couple is in earnest. I'm just putting myself in the principal's position: its a tough one and he can't win. I have nothing against gays or other types of people who live on the fringe if I can call it that, but I just don't see how forcing your lifestyle down the throats of those around you helps your cause at all, I would think it breeds resentment more than anything else.

It's two girls who want to go to prom together, just like a guy and a girl going. Their is no political agenda and I doubt they're doing it for shits and giggles seing as they stand to lose alot more than they can gain.
Their senior prom was just cancelled, I'm sure they are not being treated well by fellow classmates.
They're not there to support a cause or political agenda...they just want to enjoy their Senior Prom together.
The rest of society shoves their ideals and beliefs in minorities faces all day, every day.

Im saying their surroundings arent friendly to their lifestyle. And its unfortunate but sometimes thats the breaks.If I can forward an analogy -I know it isnt a good one and Im not comparing both but still- When I was younger, being a pot smoker was a big part of me and where I came from, it wasnt accepted very well, then I moved to British Columbia and saw the complete opposite, and people there couldnt believe the attitude of the people from where I came from...You cant make people change their minds right away. Itll happen gradually. Just like right now, my kids criticize me if I let the water run when I shave. They will be more enviro-conscious when they have kids than I am, and so it'll be with gay acceptance also.

I understand what you're saying.
Pot smoking is illegal...it shouldn't be but it is. And I don't condemn it because I'm probably the biggest pot blaster of them all.
But two girls going to a prom isn't illegal. It's not as if they are going to perform sexual acts in front of everyone.
Just sad two girls, and now the entire senior class can't enjoy their high school prom just because a community doesn't like the thought of a homosexual couple.

Furthermore, though i believe, as you do, of behaviorism defining a person, your judgement is horribly skewed in the amount of racism that exist.{IMO} I also don't remember saying anything about the North whatsoever, nor did i claim that the South would ever be completely free of racism either. After all, most sane men know that the 100% figures generally apply to mathematical equations and not people. But i do truly believe that tolerance improves every year. And i would like to take this moment to ask you to look around yourself, for 40 years from now my gut tells me that you will be even more of the bitter shell of a person that you are now. Mississippi remains 20 years behind the times on most things. I have only lived here 11 years so am only about 10 years behind. Mississippi has some antequated reasoning, have about 12 casinos (maybe more) but won't have a state lottery. They won't allow the county cops to use radar because of all those in the past that had it would speed trap unmercifully. Go figure. If you look at the ways some are convicted and sentenced you can understand this. I am no bleeding heart liberal by any means but right is right, no matter your leanings.

Sorry I have traveled and spent a lot of time in the south, live in the north. My experiences of the south blow my mind. From the Alabama story to being in mississippi and being told Obama was the anti-christ and going to destroy everyone.... Among other religious banter that made me laugh.
Sorry that the south is behind the times and accepting things that does not fit the social norm is blasphemy.
Yes the people are nice and all that but the values and ignorance are absurd. Religion rules the south and it shapes those peoples' lives.
