IF God gave us the gift of Free Will, then that implies that humans are free to make whatever choices they want. These could be 'good' choices or 'bad' choices. But even that doesn't make sense if we have complete free will. A choice is simply that. God doesn't have anything to say in the matter whether a choice is inherently good or bad.
If Moses gave us a group of Commandments to live by, then who is doing the commanding? There cannot be any caveats and restrictions on what should be done in God's eyes if he has given us free will. God may well be an impassioned observer, but if we have the freedom to do our own thing, then God can't really contradict himself and say 'do this' or 'don't do that'. He just sits back and looks at what a cock up humans have made with the planet
