Mithras is not even real dude! He was a mythological figure!lol
you don't see the irony in this statement??????
eddie the eagle,
most of us are a little nervous about what happens after we die, but that doesn't mean we can make up stories of going to magical lands with fairies, sorcerers, and wizards, in order to make the idea of death a little less scary, grow up sir
If you can show me some evidence, maybe a postcard that a deceased relative has sent you from heaven, i might be able to be pursuaded, until that time, please do us all a favor and go to sleep.
love,
caca

ok, the stories of mithras were told waaaaay before the birth of jesus h. christ (allegedly), these stories contained "facts" like:
born on the 25th of december
virgin birth w/ wise men
he was a shepard
he has 12 disciples
had a last supper
died for the peeps and their sins
came back to being in the spring
there was even a big flood, killing everybody, except the people on this huge "ark" built by this dude named Atrahasis.
can you see why i'd be leery of plugging my faith into this plagiarism? 600 years before jesus came out of mary's virgin nicely trimmed vagina, people were telling stories, mythology as you called it, stories about all this stuff you believe is fact. do you believe its all a weird coincidence? jesus is a reincarnation? and there's MORE, mithras was based on stolen ideas from mythological dudes named Krishna and Horus... they came on the scene way way before lil baby jesus came along. i'm not expecting you to explain it, because other than FAITH, there's nothing. it's cool, like i said before, youre a god warrior, live it up.

let me ask the atheists....what happens to your soul or mind or your thoughts, that energy which is you when you pass on?.....We can live without legs or arms have some of our organs partially removed or replaced. But when we finally pass on the body remains for the funeral but what happens to your soul. Do you have answers? I doubt it. So if there are people in this world who wish to believe (via faith) for their soul to be saved then let them.

nope, i don't, but i'm not so chicken about it that i gotta kneel before a pretend magic man in the sky and his sidekick jesus, there's things i know and there are things i will never know, thats ok with me, but i do know some religious teachings just arent plausible. stuff like adam and eve and age of the planet, the church has been wrong about too many things to be a reliable source for scientific information for me to put any faith in. i love new theories of how the earth and life began, but i doubt anything solid gets proven in my lifetime, oh well, i like to wonder and you like being told what to think... if that works for you, rock on.

nobody ever disputes mithras, they just say try to scare me with "going to hell for eternity" garbage and citing facts like "you can live without arms and legs" and "you can feel the wind and you cant see it", earthshaking stuff. there is still time for someone to convince me on going to a church, but time is wasting

Supereagle you keep saying that you have facts yet nothing you have said is proven, therefore it is not fact. And the Bible is not a book of history stop trying to convince yourself that it is. You have as much proof for your God existing as the non-believer have for him not existing, actually I think the non believers have more proof of him not existing than yours of existence. That my friend is FACT.

Oh and D-Unit being from New England one of the last places I would move is to Texas. I have never heard of somebody from the North jumping up and down because they want to move to Texas like you seem to think.

this is always a touchy subject and will bring out long threads and debates....
IMO.....I believe in God and am Christian, I go to church when I can but do not think you need to go every week ritualistically...
I beleive its about living a good life, doing right and being honest to yourself, family, friends and fellow man. None of us know what will happen when we die, nor can any of us say we do.
To each his own to a point, I would never force my beliefs on someone who doesn't belief that or say with 100000% certainy you are doomed because (and here comes my explanation of the orginial posters question) none of us can beging to imagine or fathom Gods work, we are all a part of his world and his children but no where on the same level of him.
RIP to the pastor

its very encouraging to see more and more people finally saying "CUT THE SHIT" to organized religon
someday, we won't be the minority, team "common sense" will prevail (and if your brain can't comprehend that this IS "common sense"---then theres really no point to engage in discussion with you)
"if you live your life like a sheep, you deserve to get fleeced"

so do you feel Scientism is a better belief system for you (or many others) to put faith in?
there's things i know and there are things i will never know, thats ok
What bothers me is that because of
the church has been wrong about too many things to be a reliable source
for scientific information for me to put any faith in
people instead turn to Science for certainty. Scientific fact has been so contorted over time. True science conforms with evolutionary changes over time. modern day science is as ass backwards as most religions, in that people subscribe to scientific postulations as if they are absolutes, or that they can provide any greater level of certainty then faith in a religion can
The biggest problems with followers in the faith based system of Scientism, is they don't understand their religion. unfalsifiable statements are non-scientific.

it never takes long for some of the religious people to bring out the "what if you are wrong" argument. this argument is a lot of things- shortsighted, incredibly ignorant and an obvious threat. it's incredibly ignorant because the same argument applies equally to them. what if you guys are wrong? what if bin laden or someone in one of the thousnads of other religions is right.
supereagle and powerade, by being a christian and dismissing many other religions and their gods, that makes you an atheist, by definition. superegle, you reference facts that is a fact. can you explain, with facts, why you are an atheist. i.e. why you dismiss another religion's god in favor of your own.
your atheistic beliefs regarding all other religions and gods also subjects you to their hell more times over than i can count. i know you guys like to think you guys are the center of the religious universe and it's you against the atheists (which you guys are by the way) but there are many other competing religions and gods, many of which say you go to hell if you don't believe. just like yours.
keep in mind the christian business model is nothing new. other religions use it too. other businesses use it as well. politicians do it the same way. pay us your money (or votes) and fall into line and we'll sell you a nice, comforting story with a nice prize at the end of the day. it's going to cost you but it will be worth it. and if you don't, you're not going to like how it ends. but you'll just have to trust us.
the ignorant what if you're wrong statement comes with the threatening aspect of the business model but would have more meaning if there weren't a thousand other religions with their gods and their heavens and hells who can equally say the same thing.
as i always said, if anyone can show me any facts to support the idea that your religion and your god is more viable than any of these other religions and gods (bin laden's for instance), i'm ready to join up.
if not, can we keep the word "know" and the threats out of these discussions?

whoaaaaaaaaaaaaa, i never dismissed any other religions....
the basis of all religion is the simple fact of a higher being which i believe in, christianity helps me understand and deal with life along with helping me become a better person and live a good life
if it doesn't work you you but Islam does and thats what someone believes, fine...I would NEVER EVER EVER say thats wrong and you will burn in hell for that, its all similar and relative
I am not one of these radicalists or here to shove anything down your throat, we all have the right to beleive what we want to believe. You have your beliefs and I have mine, to me most of what happens in this world is unexaplainable and we could never beging to understand.

then i apologize for grouping you with supereagle, but when you gave the "what if you are wrong" argument, you understand the threatning nature of that statement but also that it applies to you as much as anyone else, right?

that's not exactly true but i see your point. keep in mind that a number of religions (most, i think) believe in many higher powers- different gods for different aspects of life. any christians think that is crazy?
makes sense to me. think about how complex the earth is. now consider that the universe is large beyond comprehension and the earth may very well be like a speck of sand on a beach that extends throughout california. seems like you'd need more than one higher power to cover all of that.

You sound frustrated and confused.I will help you.I will say a prayer for you. This prayer WILL be heard, because; GOD is REAL and HE LOVES YOU ! THIS I know, for the Bible told me so.
I'm not frustrated, just annoy when some idiot coming knocking on my door during my dinner time preaching about God. Does God send these annoying folks out to bother people to become one of them. You and one of many other people will end up sacrificing yourself when 2012 come thinking the world will end and that you will go to heaven and live on forever.

System, thats where the faith comes in. I am certain of the Bible, one of the reasons is because it is a history book that has predicted historical events that have come to pass throughout history all leading to an end.
Why don't you have faith in the Quran?
