BTW - this is something in rational debate known as a "gap theory" - meaning if something cannot be explained fully on one side, that your theory is automatically correct.

Just because we dont know where we came from or understand time and space doesnt mean that god is in the gap.

If you gave a car to a person in 1500, they would think that god created it.  Think about it.

    Im not asking you to.

You are the one who said you have to be brainwashed to be socialist.  I never said you have to be brainwashed to be capitalist.

So for you to say the universe definitely has a birthdate in the context and terms of how we perceive and understand the term time and birthdate - is kind of silly.  We dont know that.  We dont know a lot of stuff.  Just admit it, it is liberating - you dont have to have an answer for everything - and you dont have to keep defending a totally imperfect answer that was given to you 2k years ago by stone age illeterate morons.

Just say it - "I dont know" - it will set you free.

uhm, again you are embarressing yourself.

up until the middle of last century, it was common thought that the universe was static.

Edwin Hubble and Albert Einsteins theory of relativity shows that the universe is expanding.

It is ACCEPTED by proof that the universe began to exist.

    So what is it,

Is the cause of the universe something that is outside of time (eternal), space (matterless) and energy? Remember, atheists only believe in the naturlalist OR

Something can come from nothing, ie, from absolutely NOTHING a big bang occured.

You really need to ask yourself.

Sir - you might want to read this twice.....

In the same way that 50 years ago the best answer was something, that we have now defined as being something different - 50 years from now it will be defined as different again.

Let me quote you, because you are obviously very smart:

Edwin Hubble and Albert Einsteins theory of relativity shows that the universe is expanding.

The word theory is important there.  Look it up.  I used your words.

Look - your questions are silly, and are circular in nature.  You cannot answer a question that has no basis in the realm of a humans understanding.  The context of your question is not relevant.

So my answer remains, I dont know where we came from, and I am not really too concerned about the answer.

If you gave a car to a person in 1500, they would think that god created it.  Think about it.

    No its not.

Think this through rationally. Naturalists think that ONLY the physical observable universe is what we have, there is NO supernatural world OR anything outside the physical universe.

You are therefore forced into a corner to believe that something can come from absolutely nothing.

I believe that a transdendant (outside of space, time and matter) created space, time and matter.

All atheists basically believe that an explosion at the print factory causes the dictionary.

mate, it doesnt matter how you look at it, that is what you believe, something came from nothing and everything that we see and know is a result of either a huge fluke or accident.

You are very free to believe that, but i basically feel sorry for you if you think that

    Sir -

Once again, you are drawing incorrect conclusions.

If one believes that there is no supernatural forces, that person does not have to believe that something came from nothing.  That person can simply say "We dont know" where we came from.

It is not one or the other.  It is not supernatural, or we came from nothing.  There are MANY other answers, and one is simply "I dont know".

    No, no, no......

Scientists NOW KNOW the universe is expanding, if it is expnading it would have come from a single point (singularity), who created singularity?

Mate, face it, you have to believe something came from nothing.

Furthermore, you believe that the distance from the sun to the earth, moon etc all the elcetro magnetic fields are perfectly in place to support life on earth are by pure chance and fluke.

Furthermore, u are led to believe that the first living cell occured by pure living chance cause we had the right micture of atmospheric conditions with a chance of lightining. If was a different weather day millions of years ago we wouldnt be here.

Seriously, to be an atheist, u have to be soooooo ignorant, rely that everything is a massive fluke with all chance.

The smartest man who ever lived,(besides myself) Albert Einstein, was a believer in God, he wasn't a Christian, but a God believer...I know this isn't the subject, but you are a known atheist.  His statement about atheists:

Einstein tended to be more critical of debunkers, who seemed to lack humility or a sense of awe, than of the faithful. “The fanatical atheists,” he wrote in a letter, “are like slaves who are still feeling the weight of their chains which they have thrown off after hard struggle. They are creatures who–in their grudge against traditional religion as the ‘opium of the masses’– cannot hear the music of the spheres.” –TIME MAGAZINE

Einstein DID believe in God. It may not have been a “personal God” but he did believe in God, he said so himself many times. He in fact hated the idea of atheism.

    Van,

Am gonna make the same post in all the religion posts i see.

It doesnt matter to me if you believe in God or dont believe in God, thats a persons own choice.

Heres the thing nobody on this entire planet can prove there is a God and nobody on this planet can prove there isnt a God, thats a 100 percent fact. Any proof you or anybody has that there is no God, is basically another humans opinion and nothing more.

We can argue about this until the cows come home but the fact is noboy can prove one way or the other, its just impossible to do.

Now me personally, i believe theres a God because when i look around everywhere, i say to myself there is no way that everything could have been created from one single cell, fuckin impossible.  Things are way to complicated.  And we didnt evolve, because if we did there would be walking and talking aligators by now in the world.

Now as far as religion itself, i think thats a total farce and people just use that to control people, but that still doesnt take away the chance that there is God

I guess maybe the better question is:

Lets assume you are right and there is a creator.

How are you so sure that YOUR creator is the RIGHT creator?  There are say 5k gods out there, under the penalty of everlasting torture, how are you sure that yours is the right one?  What if some obscure god #3,429 is the right god and you just havent heard about him yet?

Eternal torture sounds horrible.  What if you made the wrong pick?

    No problems with that.

The discussion here was about the bible.  The article I posted was about the history of the bible.

If someone says to me that they believe in God, I have no problem with that.  Like you say, it is not really debatable.  I would be a hypocrite to rule out this possiblity based on my "I dont know" position.

Einstein DID believe in God. It may not have been a “personal God” but he did believe in God, he said so himself many times. He in fact hated the idea of atheism.

Einstein believed that Mother Nature was god, sort of a Gaia 'theorist' before there was such a thing. I tend to agree with him
