exactly my point.  your worldview requires a ton of belief and is no more "provable" than mine....actually probably less provable.

so the question remains, have you done the historical analysis worthy of disproving jesus?

if you have, and don't believe, then that is our point of difference.

if you haven't and don't want to, then please don't criticize.

You need to watch the video first, before you can comment on what I have faith in and what I am basing my life on...

and need to do due diligence on the historical viability of jesus before commenting on what I have faith in and what i am basing my life on.  and watching a video should be 1 of 1,000 things if you are serious about it.

Since you won't watch the video, what they are basically saying is, that even if jesus was a historical figure, it doesn't mean he was born from a virgin, walked on water, and rose from the dead. there are a lot of holes in the jesus story. Watch the video...and this isn't the only thing I base my beliefs on

as stated earlier, youtube is blocked at work.  i will watch later.

and of course there are holes, it's a 2000 year old story, told from many different perspectives to many different people.  (just like a alabama-auburn game as told from an alabama newspaper vs. an auburn newspaper. same events, differently told.  bad analogy but you get my drift.)

to me, the belief that the story of jesus' resurrection was contrived is LESS plausible than it being true.  because i believe it to be true, it gives meaning to the entire course of humanity.  if it's not true, then it's meaningless.

while we are recommending things...here is a good read about the historical plausibility of the resurrection.

derogatory crap?  actually the Bible sought to give rights to slaves and woman in a culture where they had zero voice.  it triumphs woman, the poor, and the outcast.  it is the first civil rights piece of literature ever written.

not to say there aren't any inconsistencies...see my prior comment about many authors telling the same story.

Veznak - i see that you are sighting the sins of Christians as some sort of attack against us in terms of our beliefs, ie, why are you on a gambling site if you believe in Jesus etc. While that is true, it doesnt disprove Gods existence. Furthermore, you are saying that we are hypocrits if we believe in Jesus and are gambling.

You are completely missing the point and are lost.

Wether we believe or not - WE ARE ALL SINNERS. as i said, let the person be first to throw the stone if they arent a sinner. If you are human you are a sinner, everyone from the pope to the average person living on the street. When people on here sight preists with young children etc, it really really shows the imaturity, low level of IQ and emotional charge the person has against religion without themselves understanding what they are trying to say.

Again, we are all sinners. The difference is, the believer who believes in Christ has to ask for redemption of sins to be accepted into heavan. If a person believes in God but doesnt repent i believe will end up in the same place as the  person who has commited the same sins but doesnt believe in God. However, if you say you believe in Christ and you dont repent, then i doubt the person truely believes in Christ.

You and all your atheists mates are making presuppositions that cause you believe in God, then automatically you have to be sin free and be absolutely perfect. if that was the case, then God would not have sent himself in the form of Christ to redeem our sins.

You have people like System laughing when they look at priests molesting boys, yes, while that is filthy, it shows that humans are FAR from perfect.

When the people laugh at these priests, it is no different to when A-Rod is up to the plate, 3 men on and 1 out in a tie game and he grounds into a double play. The point is, he at the top of his game is still not perfect, none of us. are

The point is, you must repent for your sins, if you dont believe in Christ, then you dont even have the opportunity to do this. IMO, you are no different to the person who SAYS they believe in Christ but doesnt repent. BUT, if that is the case, do they really believe in him?

I reckon alot of people dont believe in Christ, not because of the proofs, etc etc, but because man does not want to be held accountable for there actions, that is human nature. There pride is getting in the way. I have heard many atheists say that even if God is true and correct, they wouldnt worship him. Right there shows to me the atheists head space. They would prefer to rot in hell for etrenity than worship God, there pride is getting in the way. Nothing to do with his existence or not. Just pride.

Regarding the questions from Sims, regarding where we came from etc etc.

Unfortunately, if you dont believe in a creator, then simply you have to believe that everything you see, hear and feel is a result from pure luck and chance. The odds of such a thing are beyond comprehension.

You want science behind everything, science doesnt explain why i like chocolate more than vanilla, or why murdering or rape or child abuse is wrong - SCIENCE IS MORALLY NEUTRAL.

God explains what is right or wrong.

Dude.  You are out of touch.  Tell me how the following champions the rights of women and slaves.  You have got to be kiddding.

These quotes are straight from your bible, written by your god.  Do you even read your bible?

Laws of Rape   (Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT)

If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father.  Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.

Death to the Rape Victim   (Deuteronomy 22:23-24 NAB)

If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife.

Rape and the Spoils of War (Judges 5:30 NAB)

They must be dividing the spoils they took: there must be a damsel or two for each man, Spoils of dyed cloth as Sisera's spoil, an ornate shawl or two for me in the spoil.

    Sex Slaves (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are.  If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again.  But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her.  And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter.  If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife.  If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment.

God Assists Rape and Plunder (Zechariah 14:1-2 NAB)

Lo, a day shall come for the Lord when the spoils shall be divided in your midst.  And I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem for battle: the city shall be taken, houses plundered, women ravished; half of the city shall go into exile, but the rest of the people shall not be removed from the city.

    SLAVERY

However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you.  You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land.  You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance.  You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way.  (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)

(Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished.  If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property.  (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)

    MISOGYNY

Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.

A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.

I said above, in a previous post - that this point has nothing to do with the existence of god or jesus.  And I didnt say you are hypocrites for gambling - I said for wasting time on this website - although they both could be considered one and the same.

You know jesus would find fault in spending a large part of your time doing anything except walking the good walk.  Jesus would condemn your car, your computer, and your lifestyle.  You know that.  That is why you are a hypocrite.

    can you all just STFU

With rare exception, almost ALL of you are destined to an eternity burning in hellfire.

Talking about it at this late point in your sin filled life's, won't change a thing..so, drop the subject your fate is SEALED already.

    Answered in post 317 already:

And isnt that the Christian way.

Knowingly ignore of defy what your god wants you to do, chalk it up to your own imperfection, ask for forgiveness - repeat cycle.

That seems like one gigantic basket of not fully believing to me.

You seriously are going to tell me that you openly defy your god, and then fall back on the "Im not perfect" routine - and then you repeat the whole thing over and over?  That is good with your god?  Jeesh.  Im insulted, I cant imagine what god is with that bunch of horsecrap.

And here is our resident Jesus touter - who says STFU and talks incessantly about conservatism and how the govt should turn its back on those who need help.

Wonder why someone might think there is hypocrisy here?  What do you think jesus would say about this guy, who spends half of his day on covers instead of spending half of his day helping the world?

    It is laughable.

    It is laughable.

You want science behind everything, science doesnt explain why i like chocolate more than vanilla, or why murdering or rape or child abuse is wrong - SCIENCE IS MORALLY NEUTRAL.

God explains what is right or wrong.

Once again, as previously stated in this thread - repetitiion of the same mantra over and over does not make it right.

Science may not be able to explain why you like chocolate or vanilla, but why does that mean god is the answer to that question?  Why cant it just be that we dont know why you like choc over vanilla?

Society has dictated that rape and murder are wrong.  We all have an inate sense of compassion, that doesnt have to come from a creator.  It might be based on self preservation instinct, or any number of chemical reactions in our brain that we cant explain yet.

Until YOU explain why god HAS to be the answer to every unknown question, you are not advancing this debate or your position one iota.

So are you accusing that before we are about to sin, we just say, "stuff it, i will do this and then ask for forgiveness?"

If i am about to rape someone, do i say, i will do this, then ask for forgiveness and all will be right? I dont think it works like that.
