and thats the thing,if sumone says "show me he doesnt exist",you simply reply that its never easy to prove the absence of sumthing but its entirely reasonable to assume its(the whole concept of a religion plus creator) a steaming pile of shiiit when over a period of thousands of years there has yet to be any single piece of wat could be regarded as solid, irrefutable evidence of sum magical,"all-knowing" creator...NOT ONE SINGLE PIECE OF EVIDENCE WATSOEVER....so we can just go with that cant we??

by the way i was raised a christian(catholic),but once i reached an age that i could formulate my own individual thoughts from within my own brain free from conditioning and propoganda i saw it all for the disgusting brain-washing pile of trash it is.

Either God exists and created everything, or we exist by a series of improbable events that created the perfect conditions for life and that life can come from non-life.  Which is more plausible, or do you have another theory of our existence.

well, its ENTIRELY plausible because its HAPPENED!!!...we're here arent we???....and its not like this has happened all over the damn place(or at least that we know of)...billions and billions and billions of stars, planets, galaxies and we know of no other life thus far.....so the odds that its happened ONCE(that we are aware of obviously)arent that heavy considering the universe goes on FOREVER!!!.......and i fully understand that we dont know a whole lot about the greater far reaches of other galaxies and outer parts of universe, but no-ones contacted us yet nor have we them....so who knows??the chances of chemical/biological conditions being ideal may be 20 trillion to 1 and we mite be one planet out of 20 trillion to harbour wat mite be regarded as "advanced life".
dont get me wrong,i think its astonishing and amazing...but hey,no need to go making up silly stories and fairytales to justify it....weather,water and gravity are amazing if you stop and think about wat is happening and wat is possible with those concepts,laws...and yet we dont pretend they come about thru "magic" do we??or that a spirit controls them

12 years of Catholic education here. I am with melossinglet...once I was mature enough to form my own critical thoughts and ideas the notion of God became absolutely ridiculous. Actually...it was more about religion.  Only a religion would preach the Golden Rule while slaughtering those that don't believe their brand of bullshit.  The Crusades to what ISIS is doing now...unbelievable the amount of death and destruction. All in the name of a god that is "all loving and all forgiving".  It all turns my stomach.
If you are religious and truly live up to their teachings of love and forgiveness...good for you.  It has enriched your life and no doubt those around you.  I will also be thinking what a simpleton you are and questioning why you need a reason to be a good person.  Why the reward of heaven has to be the impetus of your good deeds.

BTW, what the darn is "fish on Friday" during Lent?  I always thought that you sacrificed something you enjoy in observance of Jesus dying for our sins.  The signs for fish frys in my area tout fried fish, mac and cheese, desserts, beer...not much of a sacrifice IMHO.  My guess is that if you went to one of these things, half of the people don't  know why they are doing what they are doing.  It is all laughable.

all pretty obvious common-sense stuff....think about the reasons that humans come to embrace religions in the first place...generally they either a)are simply brainwashed into it by their own religious parents/upbringing and their tiny un-developed minds have no choice but to accept it...or b)they just get to a mid-life crisis type moment in life where they see the pointlessness and futility of our existence and think"well, there MUST be sumthing more to it than this" and in desperation turn to the god concept as a crutch to lean on,sumthing to cling to and look forward to in terms of the afterlife.

but in watever case there is NEVER ever good sound reasoning watsoever backing the notion that there is an all-knowing being that created everything.

and i am not close-minded at all in any way, shape or form...im entirely open to the possibility of almost anything and dont "hate" religion or its subscribers per se'...but ya gotta show me sumthing...come on???...even a teeny, tiny ounce of evidence??

lets face it,one almighty garbage-load of power, money and influence has shifted hands in the name of religion down thru the centuries..that shud tell you all ya need to know about the motives and reasoning behind it all....its propaganda for a purpose designed for weak-minded,gullible folk.

It appears you have a false image of God. That is, you have an image that he such being did exist, he would be at the call of mankind, like a personal Genie....

    That's not the Christian God.

No evidence? So the universe, life, consciousness is not evidence? Or do you have naturalistic answers for these?

So in other words, be should believe...

The universe (space, time and energy) all created itself from nothing? By nothing, I mean, the absence of anything, no properties, no potentiality, and this nothing created space, time and energy.

Then, from the big bang, the rate of expansion was so precise, that if it was fractionally faster or slower, the universe would have collapsed. But no, it just happened to the perfect rate so the universe could expand?

Then, from this expansion, all stars, planets, galaxies etc etc formed, then cosmological constants and quantities were so precise in there RANGES, that if they were slightly out, it would allow for biological life on earth. They just happened to be perfect?

Then some lightning hit a pond somewhere and life started? Then life evolved to ape like ansectors, who decided to branch away from the pack and go for a walk and one day became human beings?

I am sorry, I don't have enough faith to believe that.

God is timeless, if he timeless, he is eternal in the past, if he is eternal in the past, then he has no cause, if he has no cause then he has no beginning therefore he came from no where and he exists necessarily.

dude,i have EXACTLY the same image of god as wat you do,i was raised a christian(catholic) for my entire youth so ive heard all the ridiculous propoganda that you have so i know wats up...thanks for asking.

hahaha, thats precisely the type of reasoning my mother(who still believes in a god)would try and give and i'll give the same response as wat i give to her....uncontrollable laughter

clearly you people are badly misinformed as to the definition of "evidence".....universe,consciousness and life are "evidence" of god????....WTF does that even mean??....sounds like my mum's favorite one-"god is love and without him there is no love so how do you explain that??".......huh???

hahahahahahahaha...you ask us how we can believe the universe created itself from nothing and yet you belive this clap-trap about your "magic man in the sky"??...sorry,a tear just came out im laughing so hard.

the explanation for the universe is not known,WE WERENT THERE!!!....but that dont mean we just make a bunch of bullshiit and fairytales up to explain away sumthing so incredible and mystical.
but science does offer sum theories that are faaaaaaaar more credible than ole' magic man.

its chemical reactions, physics, biology, energy, combined with coincidence and colossal amounts of time and this is where we end up........until we get a time machine we cant know for sure(tho stephen hawkings got his ideas),just accept it and deal with it instead of being a baby desperate to hear a bed-time story that gives him comfort.

okay, yes i have said sumthing here.....it is that "YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THE DEFINITION OF EVIDENCE IS!!!!!!".....like most religious zealots you dont understand the concept of it nor how to cite sumthing as being it.so you have absolutely zero reason to actually believe in god and yet you do anyway..why do you do it anyway??..well,because youre very, very thick and very gullible.
the reason that you couldnt see the point i was making very plainly in black and white in front of your eyes is that you are very, very thick and the reason that you dont understand wat the definition of evidence is is that, coincidentally enuff,......youre very, very thick.

as an australian (who also thinks that every single nba game is fixed, right??),your parents were probably related to one another in sum way so its understandable that you are now in the "predicament" that you are in....even tho you dont realise it....because,well.....youre very, very thick

so sorry but when dealing with insane, irrational folk frustration gets the better of one and ad homs are all that they can resort to because logic and reason just fly over the head of sumone such as yourself.
bonus points TO YOU if you actually take the time to read the thread...cos then you will clearly see that i tried to make a valid case for the burden of proof being on the crazy person to prove their crazy theory rather than sumone else to disprove it so why shud i even attempt to??.....as we all know it is more difficult to prove a negative or non-existence of anything and, given that there has not been ONE SINGLE verifiable, legitimate piece of evidence IN THE HISTORY OF TIME to support the notion of an omnipresent creator ,i will stand by the belief that the crazy man is just crazy for purporting such a theory.

i know it rocks the world of a lifelong religious person to come to realise that the belief system upon which their whole life is based is a complete and utter joke and a con weaved around a bunch of ridiculous fairytales........but trust me,once you come out of the dark and into the light it is very gratifying and cathartic.

so please dont ask me to disprove such stupidity.its like asking me to prove that pigs cant fly,i could throw 10,000 pigs out a window of a building.they all fall to the ground squashed and you would still be saying "ah,yes but thats not ALL the pigs in the world, theres more out there and i have faith that there are indeed pigs that can fly!!"....ya see theres always an "out" with you people and ya just cant win arguing against the rather "special" brand of logic that you present.

my family are religious, ive been thru this many times with them so theres nothing you can present that i havent heard yet..no absurdity or reasoning will surprise

so sorry but when dealing with insane, irrational folk frustration gets the better of one and ad homs are all that they can resort to because logic and reason just fly over the head of sumone such as yourself.
bonus points TO YOU if you actually take the time to read the thread...cos then you will clearly see that i tried to make a valid case for the burden of proof being on the crazy person to prove their crazy theory rather than sumone else to disprove it so why shud i even attempt to??.....as we all know it is more difficult to prove a negative or non-existence of anything and, given that there has not been ONE SINGLE verifiable, legitimate piece of evidence IN THE HISTORY OF TIME to support the notion of an omnipresent creator ,i will stand by the belief that the crazy man is just crazy for purporting such a theory.

i know it rocks the world of a lifelong religious person to come to realise that the belief system upon which their whole life is based is a complete and utter joke and a con weaved around a bunch of ridiculous fairytales........but trust me,once you come out of the dark and into the light it is very gratifying and cathartic.

so please dont ask me to disprove such stupidity.its like asking me to prove that pigs cant fly,i could throw 10,000 pigs out a window of a building.they all fall to the ground squashed and you would still be saying "ah,yes but thats not ALL the pigs in the world, theres more out there and i have faith that there are indeed pigs that can fly!!"....ya see theres always an "out" with you people and ya just cant win arguing against the rather "special" brand of logic that you present.

my family are religious, ive been thru this many times with them so theres nothing you can present that i havent heard yet..no absurdity or reasoning will surprise

the reason that you couldnt see the point i was making very plainly in black and white in front of your eyes is that you are very, very thick and the reason that you dont understand wat the definition of evidence is is that, coincidentally enuff,......youre very, very thick.

as an australian (who also thinks that every single nba game is fixed, right??),your parents were probably related to one another in sum way so its understandable that you are now in the "predicament" that you are in....even tho you dont realise it....because,well.....youre very, very thick

Can you stop with the emotionally charged vomit and actually give some reasons?

okay, for all the people who ARENT intellectually limited, the above interaction is a perfect example of the reasoning and debate you get from a person of religion....its simply impossible to communicate or argue against such non-sensical rubbish....by definition they are very, very stupid people(well,in that aspect of their life anyway).to believe in such baseless craziness and made up stories to support such an outlandish notion as god the ultimate creator is evidence of poor intellect and ability to think rationally.
