Good point. But who do you think is paying for the healthcare for all of the uninsured people right now? Yup, we are. Do you realize how many are getting a free lunch? Do you realize how many people who CAN afford health insurance do NOT have it? Tons. Because they know they can't be denied care.

It sure as hell isn't perfect, but we're already paying their freight as it is. Might this make a few more people accountable?

How about we repeal the statute mandating ER's treat patients?

There is no "semantics"

They are different words with different meanings.

You could like look them up.

there are 40 million people without health care who would face complete financial devastation should they become ill or injured.

You understand the the entire premise of the individual mandate is that people are getting health care at emergency rooms even though the don't have insurance and don't pay, right?

So please, please cite any source proving 40 million people don't have health care.

Just another in a long line of idiotic posts from you. I'm trying to figure out if you're scary or funny. Perhaps you're like your buddy Rush and decided to become a comedian. No sane person would even propose such a preposterous idea but you somehow think that that would be best for the country. Americans dying in the ER because they had no health insurance. Why stop there? Why don't we just execute all the poor and then we wouldn't have to worry about them at all and you would win the argument.

Yes dumbass, they can go to Emergency Rooms and obtain healthcare via it's most expensive delivery method available but in doing so they would be generating bills that could ruin them financially if they own a home or have any savings. For the overwhelming majority of America's history, Emergency Rooms were not required by federal statute to treat patients who could not pay for services.

LA County is probably going bankrupt as many illegal immigrants use the ER services. These entitlements as well as their lucrative pensions are what is killing CA. In Hawaii we have a similar situations with the Micronesians. They are subsidized by the Feds yet the annual cost of 100 mil is supported by only 30 mil in Fed monies. They are subsidized with housing, welfare, food stamps, etc. The rest of this financial burden falls on the State of Hawaii through taxes. We certainly did not bomb their waters with atomic testing and make radioactivity there. I am a state retiree so my medical is covered by the state. If I had to pay for lab work, x-rays, diagnostic tests, prescript. drugs, office visits etc. I would be broke.

The fee for service encourages waste.

It rewards doctors for each test and procedure they order.

This is the single biggest cost driver in the system.

Enact medical malpractice reform

A huge cause of wasteful medical spending is the extra tests and procedures that doctors perform to protect themselves from law suits. They are forced to practice costly defensive medicine.

Still doctors can be sued but the standards for such suits need to be tightened mightily.
