I have always tried to quell the SEC-mania, and for each of the last 4 or 5 years I think either the Big 12 or the Pac 12 (or both) were just as good as the SEC...

But (a)... I have a hard time saying that this year... especially with the Pac 12... and (b) the ACC does not belong in that conversation!

I never watch ESPN... like literally, outside of watching a game, I NEVER watch ESPN... so this is not about "believing what they say."  I believe what I see, and I have cross-referenced all of the conferences against each other... I do it every year!

On the whole, the ACC gets man-handled by the other top conferences when they play head-to-head... and that speaks for itself!

.                I truly don't think the PAC 12 will have a team in the 4 team playoff.Don't get me wrong they have better quarterbacks than anyone else but their off- def lines are HORRID which is why they will be watching the playoffs..Coaching in the Pac12 is especially weak in lower half..I don't think Helfrich is the rightan to lead Oregon anywhere......Sorry its not even the 2nd best conf but like Boom said " who really cares"...U can say I was bored and did a discussion on conf allegiance and out off 45/comments I had 1 guy tell me  that if Texas went he would pull for the other team. What this has to do with capping games and something that matters?/I was really bored today..We are off until materials get in next week...and I still might sub it out idk..

On the whole, the ACC gets man-handled by the other top conferences when they play head-to-head... and that speaks for itself!
.               The PAC 12 and Big 12 are as good as SEC.Don't know how u could be serious.Don't be surprised if the PAC 12 and Big 12 don't even have a team in the 4 team playoff....Shark,how can u be serious. There are many good shows on a variety of ESPN channels..The SEC could win 15 in a row and people would still say they were overrated...Just simply Better than everyone else. The Pete Carroll USC days are long gone.

Pete Carroll may be gone, but Jimbo Fisher has arrived.

Did you even read my post before responding, WarCam?

I said for each of the LAST 4 or 5 years I felt either the Pac 12 or Big 12 was on the same level... BUTTTTT... That is not the case this year!

    FPI (football power index):

    https://espn.go.com/college-football/statistics/teamratings
    • Auburn #1
    • FSU #4
    • 5 of the top 6 from the SEC
    • 4 of the top 6 from the SEC West
    • The difference between Auburn and #2 is bigger than the difference between #2 and #9
Team efficiencies index (the most accurate measure of team performance, imo)

    https://espn.go.com/college-football/statistics/teamratings/_/tab/efficiency
    • Ol Miss #1
    • FSU #21
    • 7 of the top 9 from the SEC
    • 6 of the top 9 from the SEC West

    Sagarin and other power ratings

    https://sagarin.com/sports/cfsend.htm
    • Auburn #1 in 3 of 4 most widely used Power Ratings
    • FSU #11
    • 6 of the top 9 from the SEC
    • Difference between #1 and #2 is bigger than the difference between #2 and #6
    • Conference rankings (by division):  1) SEC West, 2) Big 12, 3) P12 South, 4) SEC East, 5) P12 North, 6) B10 East, 7) ACC Coastal, 8) ACC Atlantic (the one FSU plays in)

People can say all they want that there's an SEC bias, but some things to keep in mind:

    1. These are power ratings, based on mathematical (i.e. unbiased) formulas... they are calculated based on results
    2. They all say the same thing, even though they come from 6 different sources:  the SEC is dominant, and Auburn is still the #1 or #2 team in the country, while FSU is (at best) #4

Great stuff as always Boom - Hope you are wrong about the Huskers - personally, I believe they roll this week - I am more concerned about next week - they always lay an egg sometime - believe it may be next week against Rutgers.  Love the writeups and insight.

I won't play the Tennessee game... line seems about right... and I think OU will win by 2 TDs or more... I am always weary of underdogs the public is in love with... this week, those teams are Temple, K St and Kentucky...

And that is why they have a committee picking the finalists, not computers. Shark, you clearly thought Auburn would not even be challenged by Miss St. last weekend (you also threw Bama in there as well), well you were DEAD WRONG. The SEC is the best conference fr top to bottom, but they are down this year IMO. A team like Kentucky challenging to win the East?? Ole Miss and Miss St. dominating the West?? Good parity, but no elite teams at the top. We will find out soon enough.

If you're suggesting a committee of people that includes Condoleeza Rice is more likely to make a correct pick than the computers who have selected the last 10+ national champion matchups........

I haven't seen an elite team play yet..There are 15 team playing for 4 spots and about 8 will eliminate each other with matchups& leaving 6-7 teams for 4 spots.

I think we can all agree that this committee idea is going to proven to be a horrible system.  It will fill the airwaves with controversy which is maybe what they want for college football.

A 4 team playoff with the BCS computer system in place is ideal in my eyes.

I can see it both ways. If two people pick four teams; they could very well have 6 or 7 different teams.  But if two people pick 8 teams they more than likely have the same 6 or 7 with couple different. So, I really think it should and will be 8 team playoff.
Also not sure I want computers always picking teams because they do have a rolling bias built in and you do have to score a lot of points sometimes to move your team up.
Whereas, a decent committee can be influenced to pick the teams that are really playing well at that time and would be a great matchup, while not mainly looking at stats and W/L record.  Just because teams are ranked in computer top 4 doesn't mean they should be.  We see this week in and week out reflected by folks that watch the games feelings and by the odds. Stats and strength of opponent should play a factor but don't like it bein final say so.  A lot of good teams are not overwhelming on paper but the folks eyes see how well the teams play on the field.

When have we ever said the #5 through #8 team in the BCS should have had a shot at the National Championship??? It is ludicrous.

I ended up with Over 49.5.

It goes to 53 in my book.

    Still stays under.

    Unreal.
