so no chance of the blocked punts .. okay gotcha i wont look for that .. did i mention what if bama fumbles 3 times in their own end ? lmao
i asked my wfe if she wanted to pose nude on here , she said you post an avartar of yourself nude on here first then she will follow suit .
the same team that beat tech in week 1 last year went on to beat wva the next wek and was looking like the surprise team .. you mentioned you went 8 - 1 or 10 - 1 in bama games ? baba went 9 - 5 ats last year i think .. so you went against them some ?
on the forum name , you wrote that long long piece on this football game which took some brain power ? but you think the name of someone's handle means that is who typed the bs on here ? really ? you a funny dude man . i'm sure people use kid names , animal names , celeb names .. but you assume ? NOT A GOOD THING TO POSSESS IN THE CRANIUM AND BE SUCCESSFUL IN ANY ANTICIPATION GAME . ART MY NIGGA , ART .
my wife is looking forward to seeing tech make a game of it , she wants to share the fact an EXPERIENCED QB makes or breaks a team .. the bama team from last year is not the same team without jp .. SO NO WAY IN HELL DO YOU GIVE UP 7 PTS WHEN YOU HAVE A NEW QB AND HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU MIGHT GET .. HE COULD BE HORRIBLE .

Point #1
In the original post you mentioned VT blocking 2 punts and taking them both back for TDs. Now you're changing that to blocked punts in general by either team? Is there a chance? Sure there is. And there is also a chance I hit the Florida Lotto on Wednesday. I'll keep you posted.
Point #2
YIKES!!! Me in the nude??? Now that truely is a frightening thought!!! But who said anything about nude anyhow?
Point #3
Correct, I was 8 & 1. I bet ON Alabama when they played Clemson, Western Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee, LSU, MSU, Auburn & Florida. I bet AGAINST Bama when they played Ole' Miss. My only loss was a 1-point loss to Florida.
Point #4
Yes, I understand there are 50-year old men posing as 14-year old girls on the internet. Please tell me you're not one of those!!!
Point #5
So your wife is saying USC should mail in their season?
BOL to you . . . whoever you are. It sure sounds like you need it!!!

Ice4blood, you really need to get out of the house once in a while and see what this big, wide world is all about.
O-Line:
Alabama has 2 5-star recruits and 9 4-star recruits. The 5-star recruits were the #1 o-line prospects in the nation in 2008 and 2009 respectively.
Wide Receiver:
Bama has 1 5-star recruit and 8 4-star recruits, including the #1 overall prospect in the nation in 2008.
Running Back:
Bama has 1 5-star recruit and 6 4-star recruits, including the #2 RB in the nation in 2009, and #6 overall recruit in the nation.
Quarterbacks:
They also have 3 4-star QBs, and have a committment from the #1 QB recruit in the nation for 2010.
Tight Ends:
They have 2 4-star recruits.
When you find a team that can match Bama's level of talent on the offensive side of the ball get back to me. There are a few out there. Check my list in the original writeup for a few hints.
May God bless you with some football knowledge before you bet yourself into oblivion!!!

Of course they are. The same observation can be made of every single team in the country. Tell me which team you think will be hitting its stride in week one?

He said he was a fan, and obviously is inflicted with homerism to the point that he needs medical attention right away.
To say that an offensive line that loses 3 starters, and an offense that has a new qb and rb - is going to be better OUT OF THE SHOOT than the previous 12-0 team - is delusional.
But to each his own....

I never said that. Evidently your public school education is adversely effecting your reading comprehension.
If there is someway to do it, before you make a complete fool out of yourself, you may want to pull up my posts on Covers prior to the Clemson & Georgia games last year when I pretty much said that neither of those favorites had much of a chance to win the game straightup versus Bama. And while you're at it, take note of the brilliant people who mocked my opinion, and see how many of them are still posting on this forum. I'll bet it's not many!!! Out of that group, there was only one poster who was a man about it, and that was Boom Boom, and I have mad respect for that dude!!!
And just to fill you in on a little secret about college football, every team loses players every year. Oklahoma lost 4 O-linemen, and VT lost 2. So the question is not what did a team lose, the question is what are they replacing it with. I know this is a little adavanced for you, but just try to stay with me here. This is important.
Bama replaced their offensive linemen with 3 of the top linemen prospects in the nation, while VT replaced their two with average 3-star talent. And one of those replacements is an undersized center named Beau Warren who will have the thankless task of lining up across from a future #1 NFL draft pick that is more athletic than him (Cody does 360 dunks), and outweighs him by 80 lbs. Get back to me Sunday night and let me know how that matchup worked out for your VT bet. ![]()

You are the man.
couldn't agree more. this game is a total mismatch. DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE!!! Bama will field a better defense than a year ago which takes the pressure off the offense although i like your write up of the O. I really don't see VT matching up on either side of the ball. Not enough speed.
GL and great write up

Thanks for your thoughful response DS. I'm always up for an honest discussion, although I'd be lying if I didn't admit to having fun with the bashers as well. ![]()
Again, I really think you miss my point on Worilds. The guy is an absolute beast, and has a legit shot of being a 1st round pick in the upcoming NFL draft. What I'm saying is that in Saban's 3-4 scheme, he would not play DE because of his size. Essentially, the position he plays for VT does not exist in Bama's defensive scheme. In Bama's defensive scheme he would probably play the hybrid DL/LB role know as the "Jack" LB position. For example, Worilds is 6' 2" 240 lbs. and Bama's starting Jack LB is 6' 2" 235 lbs., whereas Bama's DEs are 6' 5" 290 lbs and 6' 4" 306. You see the diiference? As good as he is, I'm sure Saban would find a role for him somewhere, it just wouldn't be DE.
Funny that you mention Zack Thomas though because (a) I use to know his brother (lost touch), and (b) because he was a LB - not a D-lineman.
I absolutely respect and applaud you for seeking out knowledge in order to make the most inform decision you possibly can. I try to do the same. But I will tell you that when I tell you something about Bama, I'm not reading it out of a preseason magazine, it is from personal knowledge and 1st hand experience. In 6 years of posting on this board, I have never steered people wrong about the program.
If you already made the play, then ride it out and hope for the best. And if you lose, take comfort in the fact that it's a long season and that's only one game.
No apology necessary DS!!!

You are correct on all counts. For example Demeco Ryans was a 3-star recruit and became the best LB in college football, and was a 1st round pick by the Texans. Bama's NT Terrance Cody will be a 1st round pick as well, and he was only rated a 3-star. And of course there are 5-star busts as well.
However, having said that, Oklahoma, Texas USC, Florida, LSU & Ohio State are the only 6 teams to have played for National Champioships in the past 6 years, and what do those teams have in common? All of them recruit at an elite level, and therefore have elite talent, and therefore are elite programs. And based on the strength of back-to-back #1 recruiting classes, Bama has now joined the party.
I love VT and I'm a big fan, but until they recruit at the level these other teams do, they really don't have much of a shot of competing with the elite teams that simply have superior talent. As far as I know, I don't think VT has ever had a top 10 recruiting class. The teams mentioned above are in the top 10 EVERY year.
So while there are always exceptions, the overall recruiting rankings are a very accurate prognosticator of future success for a program. The bottom line is that recruiting is the life blood of a program. Without effective recruiting, you're pretty much dead in the water.
The only O-line position that was in doubt was the RG position where Barrett Jones won the starting job. But Jones was in the system last year, so he's well acclimated.
I really should have said that Carpenter held off D.J. Fluker, becasue almost everyone expected DJ be the starting LT this year. Andre Smith, like DJ Fluker, was not ready to step in and play immediately as a true freshman either, but he was pressed into service because Bama had nobody else. Now Bama enjoys the luxury of depth (which goes to my original point) so they can work guys like Fluker into the system gradually, and at their own pace. Really, until this year, Bama simply has not had that luxury.
I don't disagree with you that Bud Foster's defense will be a tough first assignment for Bama's O-line, and I have no doubt they will make some mistakes. But honestly they face a much tougher front 7 in practice everyday. Overall, I think they will handle themselves adequately in this game. I certainly don't think it'll be the mismatch everyone thinks it will be. In fact, it may not be a mis-match at all.
Everybody is quick to point out the perceived shortcomings of the Bama O-line, while completely ignoring the most glaring mis-match on the field - Bama's front 7 vesuses VT's O-line, in particular new undersized center Beau Warren. He will be outweighed by his counterpart by 80 lbs. So if you want to see a mis-match against an inexperienced O-lineman, that's where to look.

You don't say, but if that is suppose to be VT roster, you're about a million miles off base. VT Has one 5* on the entire roster, and that is QB TT. They have two 4* RBs (Ryan Williams and David Wilson). They have one 4* lineman (Blake DeChristopher), they have two 4* WRs (Dyrell Roberts & D.J. Coles - not sure if he qualified or not) and zero 4 or 5* TEs. They recruited a 4* TE in 2009 (Logan Thomas), but he was a non qualifier. WR D.J. Coles was a non-qualifier in 2008. I'm not sure if he was able to qualify for 2009 or not but I'll count him nonetheless. So for VT's entire offense (starters & reserves) we have one 5* & five 4*s.
Bama, just on offense, has four 5*s and 28 4*s.
