the big knock on OSU was their defense... well, OSU just held OU to 10 points... that is 13 points fewer than any other team held OU to this year... only 1 team in the past 10 years has held OU to fewer points (Nebraska, led by Ndamakung Suh)... that is EVEN LESS THAN THE NATIONAL CHAMPION FLORIDA GATORS (oh by the way, an SEC team) held them to in the BCS title game...

what the fuck more were they supposed to do?

this is a travesty... it is cut-and-dry... and it is a thoroughly incriminating damnation of the BCS system... you fucking argue otherwise, and you label yourself CLUELESS!

it's horseshit, and if you are saying "the two best teams got there"... then you just don't fucking get it!

funny... i originally thought i made an error here, since i meant to say "past 5 years"... but before correcting it, i went back another 5 years... and it's still true!

OSU just held OU to their 2nd lowest point total in the past 10 years, and that includes 2 NC games, and one of them was against Florida (SEC)... and for all i know... it continues to be true for another 5 or 10 years...

but somehow, OSU still gets fucked over because of this bullshit perception that their defense sucks, simply because they play in the offensively-dominated Big 12 instead of the offensively-inept SEC...

 

if you don't get the fact that the BCS was created to take the "eye test" out of the equation... then stay the fuck out of this debate!

Stanford is not punished because they did not play.  OSU is rewarded because they had an impressive win over a top 10 team therefore adding to their "quality wins column".

The ENTIRE reason babma was in it at the end is they dropped 1 spot in the rankings when they lost at home and scored 6 fucking points. The BCS is not flawed the asshole ducksuckers that voted them 3rd still are the real problem.

I'm still shocked at how people place Stanford ahead of Oregon.

Oregon beat Stanford handily on the road.

Oregon won the conference.

Ummmmm cuz they didn't lose to Iowa State!!!  The whole push to to make Oklahoma State the #2 team in the country was nothing more than a last second Hail Mary to unseat Alabama from the #2 spot.  Putting Oklahoma State in the national championship game because they beat Oklahoma is about as ridiculous as putting Bosie in the national championship game for beating Virginia Tech.

Stanford lost to undeniably one of the best teams in the country.  Oklahoma State lost to Iowa State.  Stanford wins that every trip of the train, and it's not really close.  And the ONLY coach that really got it right was Troy Calhoun form Air Force, because not only did he put Stanford ahead of Oklahoma State where that absolutely belong, he also had Arkansas ahead of Oklahoma State where they also belong.  Arkansas' two combined losses to LSU and Alabama is far better than Oklahoma State's one loss to Iowa State.

So because Oklahoma State clearly doesn't even deserve to be #3, people who are arguling for them to be #2 are just making complete asses out of themselves.  Here's what those people are in essence saying.  "After playing the entire season I don't like how it turned out, so now I want to change the rules at the 11th hour to engender the outcome I desire."  That logic, they believe, is far more sound than the antiquated BCS notion of having the best two teams playing for the national championship.

The bottom line is that Oklahoma State should be thanking the BCS Gods for their #3 ranking, becasue they don't deserve to be ranked that high.  I, like Troy Calhoun, would rank them 5th.

Um Jimmy -- Dytide was saying Stanford vs Oregon. 

And your assessment about OSU is also very wrong.  As I said a couple of posts above I can see why Bama is above OSU (although I can also see the argument for OSU being above Bama). But Stanford and/or Arkansas over OSU is laughable.

This is why this crap (BCS) will NEVER change!! TOO much money, too much power (BIG CONFERENCES) and all this TALK only keeps their sport in the spotlight. The debate is what fuels the passion between teams and conferences. A play-off system would be WAY TOO easy of a solution. They needed to "introduce a little anarchy, upset the established order and everything becomes chaos. And you know the thing with chaos?? It's FAIR!!  Excpet when crowning a NATIONAL CHAMPION!!

Ice, why does Nick Saban voting his team at #2 make him a box? If you were in his shoes, wouldn't you want your team to play for the title? I think Saban has his rankings exactly where they should be.  I think Luck and Stanford will defeat OK State in the Fiesta.  OK State lost to a 29 point underdog and Bama lost to the current #1 team in the land.  Which loss is better? I think that one is clear.

I think that the Saban comment was directed more to him having OSU at 4 as opposed to him ranking his team at 2 (or at least that is my opinion of what the argument should be).

And why do we only consider the bad OSU loss when comparing teams.  Why do we not consider that OSU had more impressive wins overall than Stanford?  Can not have it both ways.

OSU has 3 wins vs BSC top 15 schools, and 9 wins vs top 50 schools.

Stanford has 1 win against BSC top 10 and 5 wins vs top 50.

True their loss was far worse but their total body of wins if also much better.

Also, I'm not saying that the BCS isn't flawed because that would be a lie.  4 teams in the top 10 of the BCS didn't make BCS bowls and instead the #11, #13, #15, and #23 teams made it.  I know two of those were conference tie-ins, but they should make a rule that if you're below a certain ranking, say 12th, then you should not make a BCS bowl no matter what.

Another thing, I think Bama is the legit #2 team.  If Bama's kicker makes 1 out of the 2 makeable field goals in regulation, then Bama wins that game.  Bama destroyed every other team on their schedule and OK State barely squeaked by a couple teams on their schedule (K State comes to mind).  I don't even think it's close who the clear #2 team is.  I'm an SEC guy, and I say it still sucks for college football that 2 teams from the same conference are playing in the title game, but if the BCS's job is to match up the #1 vs. #2 teams, then they did their job.

OSU and other fans need to stop making excuses.

Just for fun, lets look at some "What If's"

All the crying about the Coaches poll and dropping OSU to 4th and 5th by some.

All the crying about the computer polls.
  • If OSU had actually been ranked 3rd in the coaches poll by the 6 voters who ranked them 4th or 5th. They would have picked up 7 addtional votes.
  • Let's also say that Bama was picked 3rd in all 6 computer rankings.
The BCS would have looked like this..


1. LSU
2. BAMA .9385
3. OSU .9382


END OF STORY!!! DON'T LOSE TO ISU!!

yeah but Jimmy you're not telling the whole story

ah but Jimmy , a couple of years ago the university of georgia went ahead of LSU in the bcs standings after LSU lost to unranked Arkansas in OT on the last week of the regular season

LSU then went onto beat #15 Tenn in the SEC chapionship game and be voted back ahead of an idle UGA , to #2 in the BCS and go onto play Ohio St in the BCS Title Game.

So , it has happened before , an idle team , late in the season , one week was ahead and then went behind a team that won a game.

In fact LSU 2 losses that year came after , UGA already has 2 losses. So not only was UGA correctly ahead of LSU the week before the SEC Championship Game , they hadn't lost sine early Oct and LSU had lost 2 games after that.

how come the voters switched , how does uga get penalized , they were idle , LSU lost , went behind uga , then beat #15 tenn

explain that one to me jimmy , uga , could have palyed in the bcs game against ohio st , just like bama is this year , after not winning your own divsion of the sec
