On November 7th, Pennsylvania state police Commissioner Frank Noonan said that though Paterno may have fulfilled his legal requirement to report suspected abuse, "somebody has to question about what I would consider the moral requirements for a human being that knows of sexual things that are taking place with a child," and that, "I think you have the moral responsibility, anyone. Not whether you're a football coach or a university president or the guy sweeping the building. I think you have a moral responsibility to call us."

Jersey, if you think Penn St will ever be relevant again on the football field in either of our lifetimes, you are delusional.

In JoePa's defense, I believe he did "try" to "fix" Sandusky's sick habits (i.e. taking away his chance of becoming the next head coach, urging him to change).

When it's your best friend, it's human nature to try and resolve the situation "internally" but when that doesn't work and the acts continue, that's when he needed to consult the authorities.....

The University should be penalized for "rewarding" Sandusky the way they did when he was encouraged to retire in '99.

I don't know what to believe...

Of course he is resigning. He wants to collect his full retirement benefits, coach emeritus status and full access to PSU campus like Sandusky. I'm sure he will. When the going gets tough, resign instead of being fired

Dam if you do, dam if you don't.
If Joe was the AD, I expect things would have ended up differently, but since a scumbag was the AD, it rolled badly.

Paterno is human, not God. Those that expected him to be judge, jury and God live in a fantasy world.

There was a system put in place, and should have found the perv guilty. What happened was tragic, and those that failed to protect these kids should be dealt with to max punishment. The AD, the witness, the police who so called investigated.

Paterno did what he could do with the information he had.

Last I checked, taking hear-say information and running with it will get you in the same hot water if this were not true.

Those that question Paterno for doing the right thing, think about next time someone tells you a story about someone you know for 30 years and let's see if you run to the police or you take it up the chain?  I suspect you would not run to the police.  So stop being bigots.

(a young intern at work maybe)....comes to you and tells you your BEST FRIEND.....YOUR BROTHER....or even YOUR FATHER....was seen molesting a young boy....SO.....you go STRAIGHT to the police?

In response to this statement, wouldnt you want to make sure this was fact or fiction considering your friend or family member in always around even your own children?  I would be all over this.

Curley  is a piker compared to Joe Paterno.

    plausible deniability ?

is it deceit or reality ?

Also they are SCARED of Paterno. How can a man so old have so much power over people. They are SCARED to fire him.

A writer from ESPN (Grantland) who grew up his entire life in State College and went to school with McQuerey, Sandusky's kids and Paterno's son wrote this regarding Paterno

"At one point, a talented young reporter thought she'd caught Paterno in a loophole regarding the housing policy at the school, but nothing much ever came of it. Most of the time, Joe got what he wanted. We grew older, and we came to understand one of the central truths of human nature, which is that when you brush up against a truly powerful force, it is never quite as benevolent as you imagined it to be. In order to acquire power, you have to be at least a little ruthless.5 All you can hope for is that those who do acquire power operate by some sort of rough ethical standard."

The only real question anymore is if he will coach on Saturday.

Question, as I will be at the game on Saturday, can I reply back to taunting PSU fans with references to wide spread pedophilia on the PSU campus?

or is that out of line,  you nittany lion fans usually have quite the hostile crowd...

    just wondering

The Penn State alumni/fans that have invested 20,30,or even 40 years faithfully supporting Paterno and his program deserve better than this.

May no act of ours bring shame
To one heart that loves thy name,

May our lives but swell thy fame,
Dear old State, dear old State.

That's the last stanza of the PSU alma mater.

While he may not have done anything wrong legally.

He failed to follow up and inexcusably allowed Sandusky to still use the facilities. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HE DID WRONG.

Let that sink in for awhile...

There are legal things you should do, and things that just are right that should be done.

he failed miserably, and this alone is grounds for the man to never coach another game at Penn St.

The actual football team is screwed this Saturday. If they win, there will be questions whether the team rallied together.... but rallied for what? defending their coach(s)? the sick acts?

Im with you on this. It was the first thing that came to mind. Let him set the record then bring this out. Somene needs to pay for this. You can bet that all those kids and their parents will sue Penn St. Football at PSU is over. Nobody in their right mind will let their kids go to this school until it comes clean and makes a huge change in personnel.

You know, you've beaten this to death for two days now.  Everyone knows where you stand.  Exactly where 99.9 per cent of people stand on this issue.  But now your statements are getting to be assinine.  They are 'SCARED' of Joe Paterno??  Joe Paterno needs 'FULL BENEFITS'??  What the fuck are you talking about?  Give it a rest now, dickhead.  You made your point with the first post of this thread.  Since then, many of your comments have been simply inflammatory, with no sense or merit.

    bookieassassin-

I can agree to a small degree- only on one thing- Would i have gone to police right away? Maybe not but this wasn't the first time this scum was investigated- I would have gotten involved and that scumbag would have never had a chance to hurt a child again- Whether i took care of it, got the police involved, i do not know- but that scumbag would have been put out of business. Paterno f_cking knew- It wasn't like it was a surprise- And he knew McCreary a lot better than you think- Man i can't believe how this has all happened-

I feel bad for the athletes playing for Paterno- It isn't their fault but they will be taking shit for being associated with the program. Penn St. football will take a hit for a long time because of this.

Another thing i haven't seen mentioned:

1998 - Sandusky is investigated but wasn't charged

2002- he sodomizes a child in the locker room. Paterno is told and tells only his boss.

So for almost 4 years Paterno knew his friend had a problem and did nothing. Then the scumbag sodomizes a child on campus and Paterno again does nothing.

Also Sandusky mysteriously retired in 1999- My guess is they made him retire because they knew he was a pedophile- Then when this scum does it again, Paterno decides to tell the AD and a decision is only made to ban him from bringing kids on campus

Sickening to even think about how all these people covered this up-
