How can any of you say joepa did the right thing.  think for one minute if that was your kid in that shower with sandusky...now here what paterno did, then you meet him in person--would you still say to him, "-hey joe--man you did the right thing--im glad your first and only reaction was to tell the a.d.--man you sure were looking out for my son's welfare"--seriously?  that's what you think?

Paterno's legacy should not be tarnished because of this. One sicko's mistakes will not destroy everything Joe Paterno has done for college football.

I guess..what I am trying to say is...

    Shut the fuck up

JoePa didn't see anything with his own eyes.  It was reported to him.  He did the right thing.  He told the AD.

This was going to be a nightmare PR situation for Penn St and Joe knew going to the police wasn't in his best interests.  You don't bite the hand that feeds you.

To anyone who thinks otherwise, you wouldn't risk your job doing it, and you have a lot less to lose than he did.  Harsh, but true.

i would be pissed at mcqueary, the police and sandusky mostly.  i would want joe to tell me what he knew.  everything in legal documents says that joe didnt know exactly what went on and he wasnt arrested like others for perjury or cover up.  people say he didnt do anything, he did do everything he should have perhaps, but he did do something.

i honestly think there is another side to this story.  i think with joe firing him after 1998 incident tells us this. time will tell.

i just cant wrap my head around if joe truly knew what happened in 2002 that he would not be arrested or fired by now.

doesnt seem the DA would let him slide.

    something sure aint right here

It's just a hell of a coincidence this came out after Paterno broke another win record..

Another thing is how coincidental it was that the GA got the WR Coaches job that following season.

If this were an all girls football team most of you dudes would be seeing girls naked, showering, dressing in their panties and snapping and unsnapping their bras...and sexual molestation would go down. Haha, this shit is always gona happen.

Point is: You don't hear too much about gymnastics and bb coaches who molested girls. Same damage to the girls and their psyche, but less publicity, less punishment. Man on boy is fuckin sick...roman sick.

Now I wonder how many ex-players got congratulated with butt slaps and now can't forget 'em? Or Sandusky seeing them in the showers...?

And I always figured the only way Joe Pa would stop coaching was if he died on the field...I think sometimes that's what he wanted. Wierd he goes down this way.

joe paterno did do  the  correct  thing and report it  to University authorities. They  are  the  ones  who had the  obligation to investigate and act appropriately.

if  anything  , the  grad  assistant had the  true legal  responsibility to  report the  crime.  It  appears  that  he was upset and  perhaps  thought  he  was doing the  right  thing.   It  wasnt  Joe Pa'a  role  to  call the police.  if  the  grad  assist  saw the  crime, he  had the  legal obligation to report.    Once the  University was notifoed of a probable  crime,  the  University  had a  moral, and in my opinion a legal obligation to investigate and report heinous criminal activity.

I have to disagree with you here. If he knew nothing was being done about it he should have took it to a higher authority. Were not talking about cheating here were talking about raping children.

Joe Paterno and Penn State fans can put whatever slant they want on this.

Joe Paterno has a lot of power and influence in Happy Valley due to his popularity and this all happened under his jurisdiction.

Reporting it to authorites? Paterno was too scared to do what he is more than capable of doing.

Its not for Joe Paterno to......that's bullshit. He runs that damn school. he can do whatever he wanted to do.

Here's more fuel for the fire

Penn State has a statue of JoePa on campus.

Should they take it down? Or leave it standing?

What about the new B1G Championship trophy that is currently named the Stagg/Paterno trophy ?  What are the chances that Paterno's name will remain on it come December 3rd when it will be awarded to the winner of the league's first championship game ?

When it's your best friend, it's human nature to try and resolve the situation "internally" but when that doesn't work and the acts continue, that's when he needed to consult the authorities.....

The University should be penalized for "rewarding" Sandusky the way they did when he was encouraged to retire in '99.

Zona, stop trying to prove to the world that you are partially retarded.

    Your better than that.

This will hurt the Penn State football program for 3-5 years at the most.

Joe Paterno will retire after this season. Penn State will get a big name head coach to revive the program and restore tradition back to the PSU football base.

Everything will be fine in 5 years.

    Your delusional if you disagree.

This just proves you know nothing about the Penn State football program.

Paterno would probably choose to forfeit his retirement benefits....or take whatever pay he got and donate it back to the school.

And he will not have to resign. He will be allowed to finish the season and retire as the best college football coach in the history of college athletics.

They could give Penn State the death penalty and we would still have a better football team than Indiana. So you should shut the fuck up.

How can so many people blame Paterno ??? According to my understanding, Paterno reported this crap to the authorities.  What type of  law enforcement does Pennsylvania have.  . Penn cops were probably sitting on their fat butts watching football and gambling instead of investigating this shit.  Other Penn St. Officials should also get equal blame not just one person who probably did nothing wrong
