The guy he worked with for 30 years had been accused multiple times of sexually abusing boys including when a grad assistant coach told Paterno himself that he saw the piece of shit diddling a little boy in the Penn State showers.  All that and Paterno claims he is shocked by this?

I don't know if the NCAA can penalize Penn St or not, but they should get the maximum penalty for this IMO.  This is absolutley disgusting, and makes paying for players look like charity.

I would not go that far.  It takes time for the legal system to work, but there will be some prison time here.

Sure, he probably should have gone directly to the police. But even so, he informed his superiors and at least was pro-active.

Paterno's legacy should not be tarnished because of this. One sicko's mistakes will not destroy everything Joe Paterno has done for college football.

some of you guys are fucking idiots.  It is completely true that this is sickening and disgusting, but people cannot take this as joe paterno's fault.  He did NOT witness these events which mostly took place in Sandusky's home.  He heard from a grad assistant who did NOT specify what the events were.  Then in the testimony the grad assistant stated that Curly and Schultz's information was slanted and should be reevaluated.  He did not once say that any part of Joe's was false or innaccurate.  Joe testified against Sandusky when the information originally surfaced.  Get your facts straight so you do not look like such an ass hole from now on. 

After the GA told Paterno about the incident with the 10 yr.old and he (the GA) or Paterno didn't immediatly seek out answers from Sandusky Paterno deserves blame.

Clearly the doubt is already laid out with Paterno now. At this point JoePa will forever be viewed as a complicit in child sex abuse and the 409 or whatever the hell the number of wins he has is absolutley irrelevant. His tombstone will read "Here lies JoePaMan who put winning ahead of 10 yr old getting banged out by Defensive Coordinator". Sad but true.

From  what  little  I  have  read,  joe  Paterno did do  the  correct  thing and directly  alert  school officials.  The coach (sundusky- sp?)was not associated  with the  team at  this  time.  Why  would Joe Pa believe  the  school would act responsibly ?   Penn St  looks  very  very bad,  but  I  think Joe  Paterno acted  appropriately.

You are the one who needs to take the blinders off- What he did on the football field is irrelevant now- He fucking KNEW he had a child molester working for him and did nothing about it- yes NOTHING-  He passed the information to his AD. What a joke- Child molestation is the sickest most disgusting crime that i can think of- He should have immediately gone to the police. End of story. You are classless- it's not about being a hater- A 10yr. old child was molested and Joe Pa found out and did nothing! Reporting it to his AD the next do is doing next to nothing- Letting this guy hang around for the next 9 years is unforgivable- He had two choices in that situation- Confront the guy and beat his ass(not the mature decision but he had to have been outraged) or report this to the police.

 

The allegations are enough that very few coaches in the country would still have there jobs right now under these circumstances. PSU better act quick on this shit or every child advocacy group in the country will diverge on State College and the schools rep. will take a bigger beating than it already has.

You are confusing football achievements & reputation of someone in the sporting arena with the law & life.

This has nothing to do with the game of football. Nothing.

It is not only allegations- this is the end result of a three year investigation by the state police. Innocent until proven guilty but you can bet your ass that these allegations will be proven true.

My thoughts exactly- of course you phrased it much better than I would- I am still very upset as i have always respected Joe Paterno.

joe paterno did do  the  correct  thing and report it  to University authorities. They  are  the  ones  who had the  obligation to investigate and act appropriately.  

 

if  anything  , the  grad  assistant had the  true legal  responsibility to  report the  crime.  It  appears  that  he was upset and  perhaps  thought  he  was doing the  right  thing.   It  wasnt  Joe Pa'a  role  to  call the police.  if  the  grad  assist  saw the  crime, he  had the  legal obligation to report.    Once the  University was notifoed of a probable  crime,  the  University  had a  moral, and in my opinion a legal obligation to investigate and report heinous criminal activity.
