Elks vs Blue Bombers predictions

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are clearly the cream of the crop in the CFL and sit atop the standings with a 7-1 record (6-2 ATS). They haven't just been winning games, they've been steamrolling their foes with each of their last four wins coming by at least 15 points, including a 37-22 beatdown of the Elks on the road in Week 7.

This is a fantastic Winnipeg squad that is loaded and experienced on both sides of the ball, but it's never easy to cover 13-plus points, especially against a team as talented as Edmonton. The Elks are just 2-5 SU and ATS and are coming off an embarrassing 34-24 loss to the woeful Redblacks.

That said, the Elks are second in the CFL in yards per game (403.9), while leading the league in the fewest yards allowed per game (303.7), so they are clearly better than their record indicates but need to cut down on turnovers.

Another factor to consider is that Edmonton had rookie backup Taylor Cornelius at quarterback in each of its last two games (including that loss to the Bombers), but starter Trevor Harris is expected to be back on Friday. Harris leads the league with 296.2 passing yards per game and a completion percentage of 74.1, and he will be an instant boost to the Elks offense.

Keep in mind that while the Bombers are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games, they were favored by more than seven points just once during that span. Grab Edmonton and the points.

The Bombers hold opponents to just 13.4 points per game, but when these teams met up three weeks ago, they combined for 59 points and 755 total yards. The Elks even scored 22 points in that contest despite five turnovers, including four from Cornelius.

Edmonton has now cashed the Over in four straight games and while we mentioned their dangerous aerial attack led by Harris, they also have a strong ground game. Running back James Wilder ranks second in the league in both rushing yards (588) and yards per carry (5.7).

Winnipeg's offense was a bit lackluster to begin the season as it dealt with injuries to key players including Andrew Harris, Nic Demski, and Darvin Adams. But now that they're healthy the Bombers have been moving the ball up the field and have scored at least 30 points in three straight games.

Winnipeg also has a balanced offense with a three-time CFL rushing leader in Harris coming out of the backfield and quarterback Zach Collaros leading the league with 2,148 passing yards and 9.3 yards per pass attempt. With the last seven meetings between these teams going 5-2 O/U take the Over on Friday's relatively low total of 43.5.
