Edmonton prevails in a battle of the benchwarmers.

While Saturday’s Week 21 clash between the Edmonton Elks and Saskatchewan Roughriders barely moves the needle in terms of next week’s playoff picture, my Elks vs. Roughriders prediction and CFL picks side with the West-leading Elks at plus money.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on Oct. 24 at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, with the game airing on TSN.

Who will win Elks vs Roughriders: Elks moneyline (+114)

The Edmonton Elks have already clinched a berth in the Western Final, and the Saskatchewan Roughriders have punched their playoff ticket, too.

That makes Saturday’s regular-season finale largely a question of travel plans for the Riders. Win, and they’ll head to Vancouver to open the postseason against the red-hot BC Lions. Lose, and they’ll head east to face the similarly dangerous Toronto Argonauts offence.

When it comes to motivation, it’s essentially a wash between the two teams.

As is often the case in Week 21, both teams are expected to rest key players as they turn their attention to the postseason. Quarterback Jack Coan will make his first career CFL start for Saskatchewan, while fellow backup Taylor Powell is expected to get the nod for Edmonton.

My edge lies in Powell's much more extensive CFL experience, including 10 starts with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats from 2023-24. He also owns a career 93.4 passer rating, while Coan has completed just 12 of 29 passes in the league.

With this game essentially priced as a pick’em, I’ll take Edmonton at plus money (playable to +100).

Elks vs Roughriders total prediction: Under 50.5 (-112)

Despite missing some key pieces on defence, Edmonton's stop unit still leads the league in fewest points allowed per game (24.8) and lowest opposing passer rating.

Along with missing QB Trevor Harris, the Riders will be without running back A.J. Ouellette and star wideout KeeSean Johnson, leaving Saskatchewan's offence severely shorthanded.

Meanwhile, the Elks will be without veteran pivot Cody Fajardo and likely won't have RB Justin Rankin or WR Austin Mack available.

This is shaping up to resemble a preseason game featuring two underwhelming depth charts, so I'd play the Under to 49.5.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Saskatchewan has recorded just 40 "big plays" this season — which includes passes of 30+ yards and runs of 20+ yards — the second-fewest in the league, ahead of only Ottawa.

Elks vs Roughriders same-game parlay

Edmonton is an impressive 5-3 SU on the road this season, and I like the West's top seed to close out the regular season on a high note before its playoff bye.

Points should come at a premium between these two teams, with the Under cashing in three of their last four meetings.

Elks vs Roughriders weather

Expect a chilly, windy Saturday afternoon in Regina, with temperatures around 4°C at kickoff and winds of 30-50 km/h.

Morning showers should clear before kickoff, but the wind could make life difficult for special teams and both QBs looking to air it out.
