Redblacks vs Alouettes Week 10 Picks and Predictions: Als Offense Too Much For Lowly Ottawa

The Redblacks are simply the worst team in the league, having only covered the CFL betting spread against Edmonton since August of 2019. Playing on just four days of rest on the road against a high-powered Montreal, the Als are an easy bet to make.

Redblacks vs Alouettes predictions

The Alouettes come into this game after a hard-fought overtime victory at Hamilton in Week 9. They are now 3-4 SU and ATS and still very much in playoff contention with three games left to play against the lowly Redblacks.

Ottawa has shown marginal improvement on offense lately but is still dead-last in the CFL in both scoring offense (17.1 points per game) and defense (29.8 ppg allowed). The Redblacks were clobbered 35-16 by the Argos on Wednesday and are just 2-16 SU and 3-15 ATS in their last 18 games.

Montreal has the league's most dominant running back in William Stanback, who has rumbled for 677 yards on 6.2 yards per carry. Although Stanback is questionable due to a rib injury he might be able to tough it out by Monday — and even if he can't, the Als should be fine.

Former Carolina Panther Cameron Artis-Payne would likely take his place at running back and quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. should shred Ottawa through the air. After an All-Star campaign in 2019, Adams has been a tad inconsistent this season, posting a completion percentage below 60 and throwing eight picks. However, he's averaging 13.8 yards per completion and his deep connection with Eugene Lewis has been among the league's best. Expect some deep bombs against an Ottawa secondary that allows a league-worst 9.2 yards per pass attempt.

Ottawa is simply the worst team in the CFL and has only covered the spread against Edmonton since August of 2019. Playing on just four days of rest on the road against a high-powered Montreal offense makes this an easy bet to make.

The Redblacks looked hideous on offense through their first six games of the season, averaging a pathetic 263.8 yards per game. With both starting quarterback Matt Nichols and backup Dominique Davis hitting the six-game injured list after Week 8 they should have gotten even worse. However, they've actually improved with 23-year-old rookie passer Caleb Evans at the helm, with Ottawa averaging 371.5 yards per game over its last two contests.

Sure, Evans makes mistakes (including three picks on Wednesday) like any young QB but he isn't afraid to be aggressive and as head coach Paul LaPolice said, he gives the team hope.

The Redblacks have a mediocre line and an untalented group of skill position players around Evans, but they should still have moderate success against an Als defense that allows the second-most yards per pass attempt (9.1) and the third-most points per game (24.9) in the league.

Another factor to consider is that while the Redblacks appear to be brutal in every aspect of the game, they actually excel in one area: Special teams. Wide receiver DeVonte Dedmon is the most electrifying returner in the game and Lewis Ward might be the league's best kicker.

That said, the Als are capable of really running the score up against Ottawa. Montreal has an explosive offense that leads the league in both yards per game (405.9) and yards per play (5.4).

With the Over cashing in four straight games between these East Division foes, including an 80-point shootout when they faced off on September 3, take the Over 48.5 on Monday.
