The Winnipeg Blue Bombers fly into the nation’s capital as -5.5 favorites to face the Ottawa Redblacks on Sunday night and give quarterback Dru Brown his shot at vindication.

Dru Brown began his career in Winnipeg before a tumultuous two years as the starting quarterback in Ottawa. Following a trade back to the Bombers two weeks ago, he’s now returning to Ottawa to show them what they’re missing.

Between an inept offence in Ottawa and a run-heavy attack from Winnipeg, my Blue Bombers vs. Redblacks predictions and CFL picks expect a low scoring grind.

Who will win Blue Bombers vs Redblacks: Blue Bombers moneyline (-230)

With Zach Collaros landing on the six-game injured list on Saturday morning, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are Dru Brown’s team for the foreseeable future.

The Bombers should be expected to get ahead early and then grind out the game with RB Brady Oliveira rather than putting on an aerial display as they did a week ago in Dru Brown’s return.

Winnipeg is the more physical, tempo-controlling team, and they face a Ottawa Redblacks defence that is reeling from multiple injuries on their defensive front.

The Ottawa offence lacks any identity as the quarterback controversy grows weekly between Jake Maier and McLeod Bethel-Thompson, with Maier getting the dreaded “vote of confidence” this week.

I like the -3 line I got on Winnipeg in the CFL odds to begin the week a lot more than the -5.5 that most books are hanging now, so at this point I’d rather take the moneyline than gamble that Winnipeg blows the doors off Ottawa.

Blue Bombers vs Redblacks total prediction: Under 55.5 (-108)

This matchup is between the league’s two lowest-scoring teams at 119 total points each through five games (23.8 ppg). Winnipeg and Ottawa have both gone Under in seven of their past 10 games.

Over the past three seasons, the Winnipeg offence has league-low pass rates of 55.29%, 58.7%, and 57.7% (57.23% avg), so their 61.6% pass rate this year should be expected to settle back into those historical norms closer to the 60.6% rate my model shows this week.

Ottawa, on the other hand, is quite pass-heavy. But at the league’s worst efficiency, with model projections for just 64.6% completions at 7.7 YPA, regardless of whether it’s Maier or McBeth under center.

I’m confident that this game will again be a low-scoring affair between a run-heavy Bombers attack and a Redblacks passing attack that lacks both a leader and a plan.

I’ll gladly take the Under at 55.5, and would feel good about it to Under 53.5 if necessary.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Winnipeg projects a CFL-low 30.1 pass attempts — more than five under league average.

Blue Bombers vs Redblacks same-game parlay

Winnipeg should have this game under control throughout and grind out a victory without even having to make Brown prove much of anything to his detractors on the Ottawa coaching staff.

I don’t like the negative correlation between large spreads and Unders, so the play here is the moneyline and Under given the ballooning spread.
