D.C. Defenders vs San Antonio Brahmas
Friday, 8:00 p.m. ET, FOX
Defenders | Brahmas | |
---|---|---|
-7.5 (-110) | Spread | +7.5 (-110) |
-345 | Moneyline | +275 |
Over 37.5 (-110) | Total | Under 37.5 (-110) |
The D.C. Defenders have a chance to both remain atop the XFL Conference standings and eliminate the defending conference champions from playoff contention by defeating the San Antonio Brahmas on Friday night. These two teams bet back in Week 4 in D.C. and the Brahmas got their lone win of the season, 24-18.
However, the Defenders still outgained San Antonio 409-219 in that game. Two failed fourth-down conversions in the red zone were their ultimate downfall. The Brahmas also had a punt return for a touchdown. Since that game, the Brahmas have scored just three points in each of the last two weeks.
The Brahmas will also be without their lone bright spot on offense, running back Anthony McFarland. He had 54 yards rushing and tied for the team lead in receptions in that Week 4 win. The Defenders will not only avenge that Week 4 loss, but do so in blowout fashion.
Pick: Defenders -7.5 (-110 at DraftKings)
Michigan Panthers vs Arlington Renegades
Saturday, 1:00 p.m. ET, FOX
Panthers | Renegades | |
---|---|---|
-3 (+100) | Spread | +3 (-120) |
-148 | Moneyline | +124 |
Over 42.5 (-115) | Total | Under 42.5 (-105) |
This is a huge game for both teams that are fighting for playoff position. Last week, the Michigan Panthers got a big 38-14 win at home against the Defenders. Meanwhile, the Arlington Renegades took a tough loss on the road to the St. Louis Battlehawks, 12-6.
These are the two best defenses in the UFL in terms of yards allowed per game. Michigan has the second-best rushing defense in the league and Arlington will likely be without the second-leading rusher in the league, Kalen Ballage. Despite giving up a lot of yards last week to the Defenders, the Panthers did shut down their run game.
As amazing as the Panthers have been on offense this season behind quarterback Bryce Perkins, they struggled to score against the next-best defense in the league when they faced the Birmingham Stallions. I see a low-scoring game here and even if the Panthers get close to their 26 ppg average, they can shut down the Renegades to help hit this Under.
Pick: Under 42.5 (-105 at DraftKings)
Houston Roughnecks vs Birmingham Stallions
Sunday, 12:00 p.m. ET, ABC
Roughnecks | Stallions | |
---|---|---|
+5.5 (-110) | Spread | -5.5 (-108) |
+215 | Moneyline | -265 |
Over 38.5 (-110) | Total | Under 38.5 (-110) |
Surprisingly, the winner of this game will take control of the USFL Conference with just three games remaining. The Houston Roughnecks have won consecutive games since their Week 4 loss to the Stallions, 23-16. However, that loss still covered the spread and was against a different Stallions quarterback.
The Stallions are down to Case Cookus as their quarterback now and have had very little in the run game to support him. Birmingham has the best scoring defense, but the sixth-best defense in total yardage. Their biggest issue is their ability to stop opposing passing attacks.
With Jalan McLendon, the Roughnecks will be able to move the ball through the air. The big question will be if they can finish drives and convert them to points. If they do that, they will have a real chance to pull off a big upset.
Either way, I like them to be able to keep this one within the number.
Pick: Roughnecks +5.5 (-110 at DraftKings)
St. Louis Battlehawks vs Memphis Showboats
Sunday, 3:00 p.m. ET, ESPN
Battlehawks | Showboats | |
---|---|---|
-4.5 (-115) | Spread | +4.5 (-105) |
-218 | Moneyline | +180 |
Over 39.5 (-110) | Total | Under 39.5 (-110) |
This is another game where one team is looking to gain more control of their playoff destiny, while the other is on the brink of being eliminated from playoff contention.
The Battlehawks have dominated lesser competition this season, beating the Roughnecks 31-6 and the Brahmas 26-9. Meanwhile, the Showboats have played tough in most of their games but only have one win to show for it, but it was a shocking upset over the Stallions on the road.
The big difference for Memphis recently has been the play of new starting quarterback Dresser Winn. He has averaged 221 yards per game through the air in his two starts.
Meanwhile, Max Duggan has struggled in his starts in place of Manny Wilkens for the Battlehawks, as he has completed less than 50% of his attempts. The Showboats also have the second-best passing defense in the league.
The Battlehawks will need to rely heavily on league leading rusher, Jacob Saylors, in this contest. And he just may be able to carry the team on his back. However, I love getting a decent number here on the Showboats, as they have played extremely well recently under Winn.
Pick: Showboats +4.5 (-105 at DraftKings)
