The inaugural United Football League season was dominated by the Birmingham Stallions, the back-to-back champions of the USFL. The Stallions opened as the favorites to repeat and held that claim for most of the year, but an upset at the hands of the Michigan Panthers in the Conference Championship round dashed their dreams of hoisting yet more hardware.

UFL schedule and playoff format

The league's schedule is 10 weeks long, with the regular season ending on June 1. The playoffs begin the following week, and the brief postseason consists of two rounds. The semifinals will determine which squads face off in the championship on June 14.
