Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane is essentially a pick'em, and we're backing Gane to put away his opponent in the later rounds.

Alex Pereira looks to make history as the first-ever three-division champion in UFC history when he attempts to add heavyweight gold to his resume, but first, he’ll need to get by Ciryl Gane in an intriguing clash this Sunday at UFC Freedom 250.

Current UFC Freedom 250 odds have this matchup as essentially a pick’ em — with both men carrying -115 price tags on the moneyline — but I will be backing the natural heavyweight in my official Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane predictions for June 14.

Alex Pereira has made a living off breaking opponents who can’t handle his size and striking prowess (11 KO). But the question is, how much will that power translate in his first heavyweight bout?

Ciryl Gane has faltered a few times when attempting to reach the top of the mountain, but all of his lackluster performances can be attributed to his questionable grappling skills.

Pereira will look to do what he does best: try to pressure forward and line up Gane with a heavy shot, but Gane’s historically good durability — coupled with him being the real heavyweight — gives him enough of an edge for me to back him up to -150.

The key here for me is that, in 15 pro MMA fights, Gane has never been knocked out and also sports an undefeated 14-0 record in Muay Thai.

He is known for his elusive style, which makes him hard to locate, and for his ability to avoid clean power shots.

There’s no doubt Pereira will be dangerous early, so expect to see the French fighter use his footwork and distance management early to avoid the heavy exchanges in the first half of the fight.

With 25 minutes to work with, I see this as a bit of a chess match early on, while both men try to figure out each other's timing, which bodes well for our Over 2.5 total rounds wager.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Ciryl Gane is undefeated at 10-0 in UFC fights where he does not get taken down.
