UFC Fight Night Wood vs Grasso Picks and Predictions: Speed Gives Grasso the Edge

Alexa Grasso may lack takedown ability, but she's been consistent at taking fights by points. We expect her to showcase her speed against an aging opponent in Joanne Wood en route to a big victory in the flyweight division in our UFC betting picks.

Wood vs Grasso betting preview

Joanne "JoJo" Wood (formerly Calderwood) is the No. 7-ranked contender in the flyweight division. She's 2-3 in her last five fights, most recently losing to Taila Santos by first-round submission in November.

The 36-year-old used to compete as a professional Muay Thai fighter (compiling a 19-2 record in the sport) and is an excellent kickboxer with high output and accuracy. She does much of her damage in the clinch where she can unleash dangerous elbows.

Alexa Grasso is two spots below Wood in the flyweight rankings and has won back-to-back fights since moving up to the 125-pound division. She had alternated wins and losses in her last six fights at strawweight before getting a unanimous decision win against Ji Yeon Kim in her flyweight debut in 2020.

In her last bout, she faced off against Maycee Barber in February of 2021 and picked up another victory by unanimous decision. The 28-year-old is an excellent boxer with strong technical striking ability and quick hands.

Wood vs Grasso UFC prediction and best bet

Our prediction is compiled from the analysis of the fighters and is an indication of who we are leaning with to win this bout.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this fight or where the most value lies, and is where we would put some of our bankroll behind.

With both of these fighters lacking takedown accuracy or high-end grappling ability, this fight will likely stay standing up.

Despite Wood's background as a kickboxer, she doesn't do her best work at distance and usually needs to get into the clinch to implement her game. Grasso faced a similar challenge in Barber her last time out and did a good job of holding her own in the clinch position and picking her apart at range with her striking.

With Grasso's speed advantage in this matchup, we like her to land more strikes against an aging fighter in Wood who hasn't looked sharp in recent fights.

We like Grasso to win on the moneyline but this method to win prop offers the best value. Wood might have questionable submission defense but she's never been finished by strikes in her career.

Meanwhile, Grasso's last seven wins have all come by way of decision and she has never even knocked down her opponent inside the octagon. We're expecting Grasso to win by points, which is still available at a decent price.
