Fight analysis
This is a big step up for David Martinez, who has just two fights in the UFC. That said, he's coming off an impressive win over Rob Font and now faces another veteran on the downside of his career in Marlon Vera.
Vera has lost four of his last five bouts, and it's clear his power is no longer enough to overcome his passive style and lack of activity. "Chito" still flashes occasional big moments, but he's a slow starter who doesn't win minutes.
Martinez is quicker, with a well-rounded skill set and much higher striking volume. The 27-year-old's excellent footwork and ability to move in and out of range should neutralize Vera's reach advantage.
Best bet analysis
Vera is highly durable and has never been finished in his career — getting knocked down just once. All 10 of his career losses have been by decision and if Martinez couldn't put away a 38-year-old Font, he likely won't knock out “Chito.”
