Oregon State, facing one of the nation’s toughest nonconference schedules, could possibly be the best team in the country to have lost its last three games.

The Beavers fell to rival Oregon 37-33 in the Civil War last December then lost to BYU 44-20 in the Las Vegas Bowl and opened with a 30-21 loss to then-No. 4 Texas Christian on Sept. 4 in Arlington.

After a bye week, the Beavers (0-1) return home for the first time since last Nov. 14 to meet Louisville (1-1) on Saturday at Reser Stadium. The Beavers could be greeted by a record crowd. Reser Stadium’s non-conference record attendance is 45,059 set Sept. 13, 2008, against Hawaii, and officials expect at least 45,000.

Louisville won 63-27 at home in the schools' only meeting in 2005. Although that game was five years ago and the programs appear to be headed in opposite directions, this could be considered a classic trap game for the Beavers.

They will travel to No. 3 Boise State on Sept. 25, a game many see as Boise State’s toughest remaining hurdle on the path to a second straight perfect season and potential BCS National Championship Game.

For now, Oregon State will be content to play at home and try to get a victory.

The talented brother duo of Jacquizz and James Rodgers were bottled up for the most part against TCU.

Jacquizz has gotten Heisman Trophy mention, but had just 75 yards on 18 carries and had no receptions. That constitutes a slow start for the junior, who averaged 110.8 yards rushing and six catches last season. In fact, Rodgers has not had more than 100 yards in his last three games, all Oregon State losses.
Senior James Rodgers has had at least one reception in 30 consecutive games, the fourth-longest streak in the nation. He had four catches for 75 yards and a touchdown against TCU.

Louisville has had a difficult time stopping the run, allowing 230 yards in a 23-16 opening loss to Kentucky. First-year Louisville coach Charlie Strong, the former defensive coordinator at Florida, worries about his team’s inconsistency.

The Cardinals scored 23 second-quarter points against Eastern Kentucky, but were shutout in the second half of a 23-13 victory.

Senior Bilal Powell rushed for 153 yards against Kentucky and had 92 with two touchdowns against Eastern Kentucky.

Road games have been especially tough on the Cardinals, who have lost nine in a row away from Louisville.
