The San Antonio Spurs are down 0-1 in the series and find themselves in a desperate spot, as they can’t afford to lose the first two games at home to start the NBA Finals. That sense of urgency is reflected in the market. The Spurs opened as 6-point favorites and have been bet up to 6.5-point favorites despite losing Game 1 outright as 4.5-point favorites. Even after accounting for the desperation factor, it’s difficult for me not to back the New York Knicks. I make San Antonio only a 4.5-point favorite in this specific spot. If the line were closer to where Game 1 closed, I’d probably stay away, but at 6.5 points, it’s "Go New York, Go New York" once again. The Knicks have several matchup advantages in this series, and nothing I saw in Game 1 changed my opinion that they can win the NBA Finals. Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson were everything New York needed them to be against Victor Wembanyama.

Any concerns about rust vanished after the first half of Game 1. New York took control after the break, outscoring San Antonio by 17 points while shooting far more efficiently and forcing eight turnovers compared to just one of their own.
