The leading projection system (THE BAT X) projects A.J. Ewing as the 8th-best hitter in baseball as it relates to his BABIP ability.. A.J. Ewing is projected to bat 1st on the lineup card in this matchup.. Batting from the opposite that Eury Perez throws from, A.J. Ewing will have an edge in today's game.. A.J. Ewing has an 88th percentile opposite-field rate on his flyballs (35.1%) and will have a big advantage hitting them in the direction of the league's 4th-shallowest LF fences today.. A.J. Ewing will benefit from the home field advantage in today's game, which ought to bolster all of his stats.

This price could easily be closer to +250, and it already is at some books. That's what happens when you combine the home run boost of GABP with a matchup against Rhett Lowder. Esmerlyn Valdez is a human weapon who can handle both sides of the plate and launch baseballs 110 mph. He leads MLB in Barrel% at 26.9% (min. 50 PA) and owns a higher slugging percentage than Yordan Alvarez this season. His 34% HR/FB rate ranks second in baseball. He is still available around 10/1 for NL Rookie of the Year, but with half the games played of St. Louis' JJ Wetherholt, there is still value in the market. The Reds could be down to just four bullpen arms today, with two of them being left-handed. That creates plenty of opportunities against Lowder and the Cincinnati bullpen for the man missile, Valdez.

Ryan O'Hearn is one of the hottest left handed bats in baseball entering Thursday. Over his last 60 at-bats against right handed pitching, he has consistently driven the ball with authority, and his profile matches up perfectly against Rhett Lowder's arsenal. O'Hearn also earns an elite Batters-Box rating, making this an ideal matchup. Lowder has struggled badly against lefties this season, allowing a .377 expected batting average, .575 expected slugging percentage, and .401 expected weighted on-base average over the last 60 left handed hitters he has faced. If Pittsburgh gets to Lowder early, O'Hearn should be right in the middle of it.

Colby Marchio image

Jake Irvin finds himself in a brutal matchup against the highest rated lineup on Batters-Box today. The Nationals right hander draws four elite rated Braves bats and another with a strong rating, while his recent underlying numbers have been far from encouraging. Atlanta has been crushing the baseball over the last two weeks, posting elite offensive metrics across the board and carrying an average hitter rating just shy of elite status. With Irvin allowing plenty of hard contact and barrels recently, this sets up as another favorable spot for the Braves offense.

Betting Analyst

Washington has moved Jake Irvin off the 60-day IL, and he will make his return today on the road against the Braves. Irvin threw 63 pitches in his final tune-up start, so a leash around 75 pitches feels realistic. He already issued 22 walks over 51+ innings before the injury and can get to this Over without needing a deep outing. Even before landing on the IL, he failed to reach 16 outs in each of his previous five starts while walking 11 batters over 22 innings. Coming back from injury always brings the possibility of command issues, and adding a road start makes the matchup even more appealing. Irvin has consistently posted worse walk numbers away from home, making this a tough spot to ignore at plus money. These markets don't pop up often because walk props are volatile and difficult to price, especially with uncertain pitch counts. But the Over is showing value even with a conservative leash, and I make the break-even price around +105/+110.

Let's take another big swing, this time at Sutter Health Park, where the ball flies, and the Athletics' pitching staff is hanging on by a thread. Mason Barnett is making his first start of the season after working in a bulk relief role. The rotation injuries continue to pile up with Luis Severino, JT Ginn, Jeffrey Springs, and Gunnar Hoglund all sidelined. Barnett is a home-run-prone arm with just a 33% groundball rate and will eventually hand things over to a bullpen that owns an MLB-worst 8.14 ERA over the last two weeks. Andruw Monasterio crushes left-handed pitching, and with three left-handed relievers available in the Athletics' bullpen, he should see favorable matchups throughout the game. Monasterio also leads the Red Sox with a .714 slugging percentage over the last two weeks, while his .511 wOBA ranks sixth in baseball during that span. There should be plenty of balls leaving the yard at Sutter Health Park today.

In the majors, Sutter Health Park has the 4th-lowest average fence height.. Hot weather is strongly correlated with more offense (and fewer whiffs), and the weather forecast expects the hottest temperature of all games on the slate at 103°.

Betting Analyst

Let's stay in San Diego and attack the Over on a modest strikeout total for Padres starter JP Sears. The lefty is making a start after spending some time in a bulk relief role. He threw 55 pitches five days ago and has already been stretched out to 95 pitches earlier this season. He likely won't get that far today, but 75-80 pitches is certainly in play. THE BAT projects him around four strikeouts on 72 pitches, but that might be a little conservative. The Giants strike out 2.3% more often against left-handed pitching, and Sears has reached at least three strikeouts in all six of his appearances this season, giving him a solid floor. The Padres also used five bullpen arms yesterday and could be without three right-handed relievers, which adds more value to Sears getting through the lineup multiple times. There is plenty of meat on this bone with a fair price around -125.

Strikeouts Thrown
Robbie Ray logo Robbie Ray o4.5 Strikeouts Thrown (+103)
Best Odds
Pick made: 6 hours ago
Josh Inglis image
Josh Inglis
Betting Analyst

Are we taking Robbie Ray seriously enough? Over his last seven starts, Ray has allowed just five earned runs while striking out 35 over 43 innings. He has cleared this number four times during that stretch and missed by the hook twice. His strikeout stuff has also been better on the road for three straight seasons, and his slider — his second-most used pitch at 26% — is generating more whiffs this year than last. Ray has a 100-pitch leash and has hit five-plus strikeouts in back-to-back starts despite throwing just 80 and 86 pitches. He can get there through either volume or efficiency. The Padres are a middle-of-the-pack strikeout offense, ranking 15th in MLB in K%. Expecting 15-18 outs with five punchouts at plus money isn't an aggressive projection. THE BAT has him projected for 94 pitches and 4.77 strikeouts.

Seattle has dropped 15 of its last 20 road games, and things don't get any easier tonight. Bryan Woo has been awful away from home, posting a 6.52 ERA in road starts thanks to getting shelled on multiple occasions. Meanwhile, the Dodgers rank fourth in OPS against right-handed pitching over the past two weeks. Roki Sasaki is also trending in the right direction, allowing just one earned run across his last two starts ahead of a matchup with a Mariners lineup that's struggling vs right-handed pitching.

Atlanta and Chicago send two of the best lineups in baseball to the dish, and they respectively rank eighth and third in wOBA against lefties for the campaign. The two clubs have also trended to the Over, and I'm particularly expecting White Sox southpaw Anthony Kay to struggle considering he's saddled with the fifth-highest xERA in baseball among the 100 pitchers with at least 60 innings this year.

The Braves have dropped five of six while averaging just 2.8 runs per game and ranking 29th in wOBA without Ronald Acuna Jr. (hamstring), and it’s been a smoke-and-mirrors start for veteran lefty Martin Perez, and there’s serious statistical correction ahead of his .230 BABIP and 80.2% strand rate considering they’re both high-end marks about pitchers with at least 60 innings this season. San Francisco is just the offense to kick-start the regression, too. The Giants are pacing the majors in wOBA and fourth in xwOBA over the past 30 days, after all.

What Is An MLB Computer Pick?

MLB picks are bet suggestions based on our computer's assessment of the game. Tons of betting data goes into a computer pick, including pitching matchups, injury reports, analytics, and even recent betting trends.

How To Use MLB Computer Picks

You can use the tables above to help with your bets during the MLB season. The first section includes free, computer-generated picks for daily Major League Baseball games. Baseball bettors can choose to follow the computer, fade the computer, or simply use our computer picks as one element of their betting strategy.

This page also tees up access to deeper betting trends. For example, if a club's run line is favored, you can check their ATS trends, potentially opening up some quality underdog bets.

If you're ready to get started with MLB betting, visit our dedicated page highlighting the best MLB betting sites.

Moneyline

This is the most common and easiest wager for a bettor to make when it comes to MLB picks. Basically, to win an MLB moneyline pick, you just have to choose which team will win the game.

It's simple: if you bet the White Sox moneyline over the Red Sox and Chicago wins, you win your bet.

Run line

The run line is another name for a point spread that you may be more familiar with in NBA and NFL betting. A point spread varies in the NFL and NBA from as little as 0.5 points up to double-digit spreads. A baseball run line is almost always a 1.5-point spread.

The favorite will be -1.5 while the underdog will be +1.5. At the end of the game, if you take away 1.5 runs from the favorite or add 1.5 runs to the underdog and they end up winning the game, you win your MLB pick against the spread.

Totals (Over/Under)

Another common wager is to bet on the total in baseball, which is a bet on the total runs scored in the baseball game. You are simply choosing whether the final score will be Over or Under that total. Betting the Over/Under on a matchup is a great way to get started in MLB score predictions.

Thus, the bet is coined as No Run First Inning or Yes Run First Inning. No need to wait a couple of hours to cash a bet when it could be done in 20 minutes or less.

First Five Innings MLB Picks

The above options, moneyline, run line, and Over/Under, can also be placed on the first five innings of a game rather than the full game. Many experienced bettors will use this approach because, typically, this will take bullpens out of the equation and make your job researching the game easier. After all, you can just focus on the starting pitchers.

MLB Picks And Parlays

If you want to combine multiple games into one mega wager, you may consider making a parlay bet. A parlay is when you pick two or more MLB games on one single betting ticket, which will increase the payout of your bet.

But it also comes with more risk, as each of those MLB picks must hit for your ticket to pay out. Our parlay calculator is a great tool to find out what your potential payout would be.

MLB Player Props

Player props are a great way to hone in on an individual matchup for a game. These types of wagers will be individualized for a player: Will Shohei Ohtani hit a home run? Will Gerrit Cole get seven strikeouts? Will Paul Skenes allow two earned runs?

You simply choose whether this outcome will happen or not. Keeping up to date on daily pitching matchups and batters on a hot streak can give you a huge boost when placing player prop bets.

MLB Futures Picks

Lastly, prior to the season and even throughout the season, you can place futures bets on all the long-term awards and outcomes. You can lock in an MLB pick on who will win their division, which squad will win the World Series, or even who will win the Rookie of the Year, MVP, or Cy Young.
