The Reds have posted a 59 wRC+ and .131 ISO over the last week. Cleveland has been better but still not elite, carrying a 96 wRC+ and .169 ISO over its last seven games. Chase Burns also has a strong matchup against a Guardians lineup that has not made much loud contact lately.
Chase Burns holds a significant edge over Guardians starter Slade Cecconi. Cecconi owns a 5.48 xERA across his last four appearances, allowing 1.40 HR/9 and an alarming 47.8% hard-hit rate. Burns, meanwhile, has been flat dominant, and it's enough to take the home team all the way to -160 on the moneyline.
The left-handed Kyle Stowers gets to unleash his Top-50 bat speed against one of the most homer-friendly pitchers in baseball, Aaron Nola. Only Jeffrey Springs has allowed more home runs this season, and Springs at least has the excuse of pitching at Sutter Health Field. Nola doesn't. Left-handed hitters have done the most damage, hitting nearly twice as many home runs as righties against the Phillies starter since 2024. He ranks 25th among MLB starters in HR/9 and 24th in HR/FB rate. Six of Nola's last eight starts have turned into multi-homer outings, with 14 long balls allowed over that 42-inning stretch. You could make a case for several Marlins bats today, but I like the price on Stowers the most. He also projects as Miami's most likely hitter to go deep. Heriberto Hernandez at +450 or better was another strong consideration, and pairing the two in an HRRBI stack at plus money is worth a look.
Dean Kremer is always a good pitcher fade and even better today on the road with 18-mph winds blowing out to center field. Lefties always give the Baltimore starter trouble, with 70% of his home runs allowed this year and 66% since 2024. That puts me on a left-handed bat of Detroit, and I'm settling on the rookie, Kevin McGonigle, at +488. The AL rookie of the year betting favorite (-240) has a fair price of around +420, with his last HR cashing at +375 vs. another righty in Ryan Johnson. Looking under the hood, his IdealAtkAng% tops the team over the last week, and he is getting a ton of balls in play with just a 4% walk rate and hitting .306 over his last nine games, which comes with a hit in all but one of those games. Is he crushing the ball right now? Not exactly, but this matchup and wind are enough to aid any hitter, especially one who owns a .859 OPS vs. right-handers and might not have to face any left-handed options out of the Baltimore bullpen today.
Griffin Jax has pitched better of late but still ranks in the 45th percentile in Pitcher Run Value.
Cal Quantrill’s third percentile K% should result in plenty of contact against a Tampa Bay Rays offense tied for second in average.
Bet to -130.
Nathan Lukes has been Toronto's best road hitter this season and matches up well against Cade Cavalli's breaking-ball-heavy arsenal, making him an intriguing quarter-unit home run play at +800 or longer.
The Mets have consistently hit Chris Sale well, producing a .920 OPS against him. New York’s bats are also heating up, ranking fifth in OPS over the past week. Meanwhile, Christian Scott faces a daunting challenge against a Braves lineup that's been one of baseball’s best against right-handed pitching this month. Add in Atlanta’s struggling bullpen, and this game has a strong chance to clear the total.
The Over has a path despite strong starters because both offenses are producing right now. Atlanta owns a .204 ISO over the last two weeks, while the Mets carry a 134 wRC+ and .217 ISO across their last six games. Atlanta’s struggling bullpen also gives New York late scoring upside.
The Minnesota starter is coming off a 109-pitch outing in his last start and sits just 30 innings away from his career high. The Kansas City offense is much weaker without Bobby Witt, but the workload could still impact Taj Bradley's efficiency today. Minnesota is one of the warmer parks on the slate with temperatures around 88 degrees at first pitch, which only adds to the fatigue angle. Bradley might not get hit hard, but longer innings could become an issue, especially for a pitcher who already struggles with command with 46 walks over 114 innings. This is a big price for a pitcher coming off a massive workload with career highs approaching. With Minnesota sitting just a game out of the Wild Card race, the Twins will need to balance winning now with managing Bradley's usage.
Anthony Kay looks like he might be slowing down in his first MLB season since 2023. His last five outings have lasted 79, 83, 92, 48, and 73 pitches, and over that stretch, he has cleared this number just once with 17 strikeouts across 22 innings. Kay likely needs to reach 18 outs to get to five punchouts, and that is something he has done only once over his last 10 starts. The matchup against the Yankees always brings some risk, as New York has been a Top-3 strikeout offense all season, but 16-mph winds blowing out to right field aren't going to help Kay stay on the mound. The Yankees also chased him after just four innings in their last meeting in June, when Kay finished with only two strikeouts. The stuff can play, but the inconsistency and leash remain the biggest concerns. Covers projections have Kay at 4.31 strikeouts, making the break-even price around -130.
Gerrit Cole has been excellent of late, sporting a 2.56 xFIP, 2.42 SIERA, and 33.7 K% over the last five starts.
The New York Yankees rank 26th in OPS vs. lefties in July, and Anthony Kay’s 31.7 FB% the last 30 days could help further zap their power.
Bet to -120.
With two below average pitchers taking the mound, this game has all the makings of a high scoring affair. Colin Rea has been a disaster on the road, posting a 6.45 ERA, 5.66 xERA, and 1.61 WHIP while allowing an 11.05% barrel rate. Michael McGreevy hasn't been much better away from home, carrying a 4.58 expected ERA with a 41.57% hard hit rate and 9.55% barrel rate allowed. Neither starter inspires much confidence, and both lineups should have opportunities to do damage. It only takes one of these arms to unravel for this game to fly over the total.
The Cubs are easy to back in this spot despite Colin Rea's inconsistencies. While the right hander has struggled recently, St. Louis has been one of the coldest offenses in baseball, posting just a 68 wRC+, .265 wOBA, and .578 OPS over its last 12 games. On the other side, Michael McGreevy has been hit hard lately, allowing nearly a 52% hard hit rate and more than a 15.5% barrel rate across his last three starts. With Chicago's lineup continuing to rake, posting a 128 wRC+, .358 wOBA, and .193 ISO over its last 21 games, I'll back the Cubs to outslug the Cardinals.
Willson Contreras came up short Monday, but I'm going right back to him against Gage Jump. Contreras owns an elite Batters-Box rating, covers 84% of Jump's pitch mix, and has been crushing left handed pitching all season. Over his last 30 at bats against southpaws, he's posted a .600 slugging percentage, 1.000 OPS, and .320 ISO while consistently producing hard contact. Jump has been hammered by right handed hitters, allowing elite expected numbers along with plenty of hard hit balls and barrels. Everything points to another premium matchup, and I'm backing Contreras to bounce back in a big way tonight.
The Red Sox are in a great spot to score early against Gage Jump. The Athletics left hander has been one of the worst rated pitchers on today's slate according to Batters-Box and has been crushed over his last 11 innings, allowing plenty of hard contact and barrels. Boston also grades out as the highest rated offense on the slate, with four elite rated hitters and four more carrying strong ratings. The Red Sox have been excellent against left handed pitching all season, and the hitter friendly conditions in Sacramento only add to the appeal. I like Boston to jump on Jump early.
Freddie Freeman continues to be one of the safest hitters to back, especially against right handed pitching. The Dodgers first baseman enters with an elite Batters-Box rating and has cashed this prop in nearly 69% of his elite rated matchups this season. He's also scorching hot at the plate, posting a .407 batting average and .952 OPS over his last 30 at bats against righties. On the other side, Luis Castillo has struggled against left handed hitters on the road, allowing plenty of quality contact. With Freeman swinging it this well against a vulnerable matchup, I'll back him to clear 1.5 total bases once again.
Luis Castillo is coming off a 101-pitch game where he went seven innings but still managed only three strikeouts. It was the sixth straight start for the right-hander to go Under this total. His K% is down from last year, marking the third straight season his K% has dropped. His four-seam velocity has also been on the decline since 2022. A road date, where his K/9 numbers are worse since 2024, vs. a legit Dodgers lineup, is not a great spot to expect Castillo to get back to his glory years, and why the projections are showing this fair price of -115/-120.
Okamoto's hitting profile perfectly matches up well against Imanaga’s stuff. The Cubs starter throws a heavy dose of the fastball and gets barreled up at a 10.4% rate. The Jays third baseman barrels the ball better than anyone in the Blue Jays lineup with a 13.5% barrel rate, while owning a 63.2% hard hit rate against the four-seamer.
Atlanta and Chicago send two of the best lineups in baseball to the dish, and they respectively rank eighth and third in wOBA against lefties for the campaign. The two clubs have also trended to the Over, and I'm particularly expecting White Sox southpaw Anthony Kay to struggle considering he's saddled with the fifth-highest xERA in baseball among the 100 pitchers with at least 60 innings this year.
I'm fading Chicago White Sox lefty Anthony Kay on Thursday. He's sporting the fifth-highest xERA among the 100 pitchers with at least 60 innings, after all. Plus, the Atlanta Braves enter ranked eighth in wOBA against southpaws for the season and sixth in overall xwOBA across the past 14 days.
The Yankees rank Top-3 in OPS, ISO, OBP, xWOBA, and hard hit rate when facing left-handed pitching. The Red Sox have hit righties very well over the past four weeks, sitting ninth in wOBA, ninth in ISO, and fourth in batting average. Play the Over to -120.
Ranger Suarez has started four games against teams ranking Top-10 in OPS vs. left-handed pitching, allowing 13 runs and posting a 6.13 ERA during those games. The New York Yankees lead the majors in OPS against lefties so they’re a prime candidate to cause Suarez problems. Playable to -145.
The Braves have dropped five of six while averaging just 2.8 runs per game and ranking 29th in wOBA without Ronald Acuna Jr. (hamstring), and it’s been a smoke-and-mirrors start for veteran lefty Martin Perez, and there’s serious statistical correction ahead of his .230 BABIP and 80.2% strand rate considering they’re both high-end marks about pitchers with at least 60 innings this season. San Francisco is just the offense to kick-start the regression, too. The Giants are pacing the majors in wOBA and fourth in xwOBA over the past 30 days, after all.
Our experts and prediction models are hard at work analyzing the data. Check back shortly for today's picks, or explore our Computer Picks for inspiration.
MLB picks are bet suggestions based on our computer's assessment of the game. Tons of betting data goes into a computer pick, including pitching matchups, injury reports, analytics, and even recent betting trends.
You can use the tables above to help with your bets during the MLB season. The first section includes free, computer-generated picks for daily Major League Baseball games. Baseball bettors can choose to follow the computer, fade the computer, or simply use our computer picks as one element of their betting strategy.
This page also tees up access to deeper betting trends. For example, if a club's run line is favored, you can check their ATS trends, potentially opening up some quality underdog bets.
If you're ready to get started with MLB betting, visit our dedicated page highlighting the best MLB betting sites.
This is the most common and easiest wager for a bettor to make when it comes to MLB picks. Basically, to win an MLB moneyline pick, you just have to choose which team will win the game.
It's simple: if you bet the White Sox moneyline over the Red Sox and Chicago wins, you win your bet.
The run line is another name for a point spread that you may be more familiar with in NBA and NFL betting. A point spread varies in the NFL and NBA from as little as 0.5 points up to double-digit spreads. A baseball run line is almost always a 1.5-point spread.
The favorite will be -1.5 while the underdog will be +1.5. At the end of the game, if you take away 1.5 runs from the favorite or add 1.5 runs to the underdog and they end up winning the game, you win your MLB pick against the spread.
Another common wager is to bet on the total in baseball, which is a bet on the total runs scored in the baseball game. You are simply choosing whether the final score will be Over or Under that total. Betting the Over/Under on a matchup is a great way to get started in MLB score predictions.
A new and emerging MLB betting market is the NRFI/YRFI bet. These are quick-hitters in which you make a wager on the O/U total of the first inning, typically set at 0.5 runs. Thus, the bet is coined as No Run First Inning or Yes Run First Inning. No need to wait a couple of hours to cash a bet when it could be done in 20 minutes or less.
The above options, moneyline, run line, and Over/Under, can also be placed on the first five innings of a game rather than the full game. Many experienced bettors will use this approach because, typically, this will take bullpens out of the equation and make your job researching the game easier. After all, you can just focus on the starting pitchers.
If you want to combine multiple games into one mega wager, you may consider making a parlay bet. A parlay is when you pick two or more MLB games on one single betting ticket, which will increase the payout of your bet.
But it also comes with more risk, as each of those MLB picks must hit for your ticket to pay out. Our parlay calculator is a great tool to find out what your potential payout would be.
If you're looking for more MLB picks content, check out our consensus picks and prop bets pages to get your fix. While you're at it, head over to our MLB promos page to get the best bang for your buck.
Player props are a great way to hone in on an individual matchup for a game. These types of wagers will be individualized for a player: Will Shohei Ohtani hit a home run? Will Gerrit Cole get seven strikeouts? Will Paul Skenes allow two earned runs?
You simply choose whether this outcome will happen or not. Keeping up to date on daily pitching matchups and batters on a hot streak can give you a huge boost when placing player prop bets.
Lastly, prior to the season and even throughout the season, you can place futures bets on all the long-term awards and outcomes. You can lock in an MLB pick on who will win their division, which squad will win the World Series, or even who will win the Rookie of the Year, MVP, or Cy Young.
