PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Ricky Nolasco (10-10, 4.40 ERA) vs. Braves RH Randall Delgado (0-1, 3.60).
Nolasco had gone nearly three weeks between wins when he beat the Pirates on Sept. 9, allowing three runs in six innings. In his last four starts, he has struck out 19 and walked only two in 25 1/3 innings. He is 1-0 with a 3.79 ERA in three starts against the Braves this year, including a win July 31. He has made 17 career starts against Atlanta, going 5-6 with a 4.73 ERA. With every successive start, Braves fans are happier that the team didn’t trade Delgado for a veteran during the stretch run. The Panamanian has shown outstanding mound presence, especially since injuries forced him into the rotation. He allowed only one run in five innings against the Cardinals on Sept. 9, a game the bullpen lost. This will be his first appearance against the Marlins.
ABOUT THE MARLINS (67-80): Logan Morrison returned to Florida on Monday and had fluid drained from his swollen right knee. He is expected to back in the lineup for the three-game series in Washington. Starter Chris Volstad has gone eight straight starts since his last win July 10. He pitched five innings and got a no-decision Monday. Outfielder Emilio Bonifacio has seven multi-hit efforts in his last nine games.
ABOUT THE BRAVES (85-64): Chipper Jones has hit safely in eight of nine games, and has multiple hits in six of those games. He has batted second in the lineup in four of the last five games. Dan Uggla set a career high with his 34th home home Tuesday - he was stuck on 33 since Sept. 6. Uggla has hit 30 or more home runs in five straight seasons. Matt Diaz broke a four-game hitless streak (three of them pinch-hit appearances) Tuesday night.
FINAL PITCH: Mike Cameron, who had planned to retired at season's end, was released by Florida on Monday night after he struck out as a pinch-hitter in the 10th inning. It was his first at-bat since hurting his right hamstring Sept. 6. Cameron had a career average of .249 and hit .238 in 45 games for the Marlins after coming from Boston in July.
