Toronto @ Atlanta preview

Turner Field

Last Meeting ( Jun 21, 2011 ) Toronto 1, Atlanta 5

THE STORY: The Atlanta Braves will get another starter back from the disabled list as they go for a sweep of the three-game series Wednesday against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays. The Braves added pitcher Brandon Beachy to the active roster and he will get the start. Atlanta already activated Nate McLouth and Jason Heyward during the last week. The Blue Jays have lost three straight and scored two runs over those 27 innings. Atlanta has won three straight and is 4-4 on its nine-game homestand.

TV: 1:05 p.m. ET, Rogers Sportsnet (Toronto), SportSouth (Atlanta)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays LH Jo-Jo Reyes (3-5, 4.18) vs. Braves RH Brandon Beachy (1-1, 3.45). Reyes is a former Brave who was dealt to Toronto last July in the Alex Gonzalez trade. After going 28 starts without a win, Reyes has won three of his last four decisions and has given up no more than four runs in any of those starts. He allowed two runs on six hits in 6 1/3 at Cincinnati in his last start and didn't walk a batter for the first time. Opponents are batting .289 against Reyes, who has been equally effective at home and on the road. He'll be making his first appearance against his old team. Beachy will be making his first start since May 13, when he strained his left oblique. Beachy struck out eight in a five-inning rehab start last week at Triple A Gwinnett. Beachy had been one of the team's most consistent starters, but suffered from a lack of run support. Opponents are hitting only .221 against him. This will be his first start in an interleague game.

ABOUT THE BLUE JAYS (36-38): Jose Bautista is 0-for-8 against the Braves, but nearly ended his homerless streak with a drive to the wall in the first inning Tuesday. Adam Lind ended an 0-for-8 streak with a pair of singles. Corey Patterson, who grew up in the northern Atlanta suburbs, is only 2-for-18 in five games on the road trip - he had a hit and threw out a baserunner on Tuesday. Edwin Encarnacion is hitless in his last 11 at-bats. Ricky Romero, Monday's loser, has received only eight runs of support in his seven losses. He sounded off about the lack of offense afterward and was asked by manager John Farrell to offer an apology or explanation to his teammates

ABOUT THE BRAVES (42-33): Brian McCann has a five-game hitting streak and is 6-for-16 with three home runs during that stretch. It looks like Jason Heyward’s offense is starting to come around - he is 7-for-26 in seven games since coming off the DL. Chipper Jones had a hit and a sacrifice fly Tuesday in his first game back after sitting out four games with an adductor strain. Jordan Schafer has scored five runs over the last three games.

FINAL PITCH: The Braves purchased the contract of shortstop Julio Lugo from Triple A Gwinnett and optioned Diory Hernandez to Gwinnett. Lugo was signed to a minor league contract May 23 and was hitting .231 with one homer and seven RBI in 13 games for Gwinnett. Hernandez had been hitless (0-for-9) in his last four games and was batting .212.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
