Manchester United will hope to secure a third-place finish in the Premier League on Sunday when they welcome Fulham to Old Trafford for the final match of the season.

Fulham’s position in the top half of the table is fully secured — they will finish 10th regardless of any other results in the league. However, they will have a little bit of revenge in mind as they face the side that eliminated them from the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils have earned themselves a spot in the Champions League next season, but will have to balance their desire to finish ahead of Newcastle with the need to keep players healthy for next week’s FA Cup final with Manchester City.

With Erik ten Hag likely to rest a few players in anticipation of that showdown, it presents some betting opportunity for the savvy player. Let us help you take advantage with our Manchester United vs Fulham EPL betting picks and predictions for Sunday, May 28.

Manchester United vs Fulham picks and predictions

Fulham were flirting with a spot in European football prior to their FA Cup quarterfinal showdown in mid-March. But they entered the match on a two-game losing skid in the league, and after Aleksandar Mitrovic was sent off and later suspended for eight matches, things fell apart.

Fulham would proceed to lose their next two matches, and five of the eight that he missed, as their hopes quickly faded away. They struggled to score goals without their talisman, managing just 12 in his absence — with five of those coming in one match against lowly Leicester. In their four away matches, they were shut out twice.

But now Mitrovic is back, and after scoring off the bench in his return away to Southampton, he scored a brace last weekend in their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace. Mitrovic managed three shots in the match, putting two of them on target. While one of them was a penalty, he’s consistently been a threat to shoot from anywhere and everywhere.

Before he was sent off in the FA Cup showdown between the two sides, Mitrovic had already managed five shots, putting three of them on target. And while he was absent from Fulham’s 2-1 defeat in the reverse fixture in November, Vinicius led the line and put two of his three shots on goal as Man United struggled to deal with Fulham’s movement and pressure.

Now, Fulham will likely face a Man United team that will be giving some players a bit of a rest. Nobody in Europe’s Top 5 leagues has played more minutes since the World Cup than Bruno Fernandes, and it’s possible he will get a break on Sunday. Marcus Rashford could also be given time to fully rest up, along with fullback Luke Shaw, who came off injured at halftime in their 4-1 win over Chelsea on Thursday. And that’s in addition to Antony, who was stretchered off with a severe ankle injury after just a half hour played.

Fulham’s loss to Man United saw Willian sent off for blocking a goal with his arm, their manager sent off for trying to impede the VAR review, and Mitrovic sent off for making contact with the referee before losing his mind. They’re going to be out for revenge, and Mitrovic is going to want to score. Against a Man United lineup that is likely going to either rest key players or bring them off early, I expect him to get plenty of opportunities.

Mitrovic is averaging 3.87 shots per 90 minutes played, and 1.26 efforts on goal per 90. He’s put three on goal in his 108 minutes since returning from suspension over the past two matches, as well. With implied odds of 30.77% to put two or more shots on goal, the price of +225 at bet365 is an outlier and way too generous to pass up given the circumstances — especially after how many opportunities Man United allowed to Chelsea on Thursday.

My best bet: Mitrovic Over 1.5 shots on target (+225 at bet365)

Manchester United vs Fulham side analysis

Manchester United are -210 favorites or better across the board, and they’ve not lost in their last 29 at Old Trafford. In fact, they’ve conceded just nine goals in 18 league matches at home this season. But while they rolled out 4-1 winners over Chelsea on Thursday, they were fortunate not to concede more goals and were given the final one of the night. Shaw is a doubt, although he did return to training on Saturday, but Antony and Lisandro Martinez will miss out.

Fulham will be without Andreas Pereira, with the former Man United midfielder being injured. But they’ll come into the match on a solid run of form, unbeaten in their last three. They also have picked up a solid point haul away from home this campaign, with seven wins and two draws in 18 away.

Fulham have actually picked up a draw in two of their last three visits to Old Trafford, including a 1-1 draw the last time they traveled to Manchester near the end of the 2020-21 campaign. It’s hard for me to predict a winner in this one given the uncertainty around who ten Hag will field on Sunday, but I do like Fulham +1 at even money.

If Man United field a rotated squad, the Fulham double chance offers outstanding value at +160 but you’ll need to jump on it very soon after the lineups are released.

Manchester United vs Fulham Over/Under analysis

Overs are often my go-to on the final day in matches where there isn’t anything extremely important on the line, and the public agrees on this one. The Over 2.5 is juiced heavily, with -200 the best price you’ll get at the moment. Most books are offering the 3.5 total instead, with the Over as low as +105 in some places.

While Man United haven’t been conceding many goals of late at home – Chelsea’s goal was their first conceded in five Premier League affairs – they’re giving up plenty of chances. In all competitions, 10 of their 33 matches have seen four or more goals, while 20 have featured at least three goals.

On the flip side, Fulham’s last three matches have featured two Overs, with a combined 14 goals scored. The Over 2.5 has also hit in six of their last eight outings, and nine of their last 13. Away from home, the Under has come through three straight times — but Mitrovic didn’t start any of them.

Personally, I’m staying away from the total on this one and hoping to get a good number live. I expect there to be at least three goals, but while I wouldn’t bet the juice, the Over 2.5 is a decent parlay piece.

Manchester United vs Fulham weather

Rain is going to be a threat all day in Manchester on Sunday. Temperatures will be in the mid-60s with plenty of sunshine, but a 30-40% chance of rain is going to be present throughout the entire day and well into the match. Wind gusts could also jump into the 20-mph range during play.
