We all know the story now. Inter lost the Champions League final 5-0, and that put an abrupt end to the Simone Inzaghi era on the Nerazzurri bench.
As expected, Inter are far from their best given the circumstances. Even if they are somehow well placed to go through, a loss against River could kill their chances of progressing.

My Inter Milan vs River Plate best bet: River Plate or Draw (-110 at Betano)
Inter manager Chivu has a lot on his plate right now. He made the move to elite club management after coaching just 13 matches at senior level. He took over Parma in a difficult context and guided them to safety in the Italian league. The challenge is of a different type this time, but it still has the word "difficult" engraved.
It was not just the 5-0 defeat vs. PSG that made Inter tremble. They lost highly popular manager Simone Inzaghi to Al Hilal just a day later. And they also missed the Italian league title — the Scudetto — a trophy that they were convinced they would conquer heading into the final weeks of the campaign. Inter need to reinvent themselves, and it's Chivu's mission to find bridges where gaps were created: in the stands, inside the locker room, and in the self-belief of his players.
Inter drew against Monterrey and beat Urawa Reds, just as River Plate did so far at the Club World Cup. But the Italians were rarely dominant and convincing. Individual quality did the work, as they won their four points. Inter will not count on strikers Marcus Thuram and Mehdi Taremi up front, with the first being injured and Taremi being stuck in his home country, Iran, since the start of the war.
River Plate will miss some important players themselves. Midfielders Kevin Castano, Giuliano Galoppo, and Enzo Perez are all out with suspensions, while attacker Sebastian Driussi sprained his ankle and will not feature again in the tournament.
Inter is favoured by the bookmakers, but judging by what they delivered so far in the tournament, I'd say the chances are even, even with the midfield issues at River Plate. I'll stick to the double chance favouring River Plate, but note that the simple draw is returning +225 at Betano.

As they did in their two games so far at the Club World Cup, Inter will try to make the most of the chances they have. It will be a matter of control, and they see little action in front of their goal as a good sign. So I'll opt for the under 2.5 goals in my SGP as a consequence.
I believe River Plate will be the force to drive attacks in this clash, so I'll have two overs featuring Marcelo Gallardo's men. River Plate's average for shots on target in the Argentinean league is just over 6.5 per game. So far at the Club World Cup, they sent five shots on target in their 3-1 victory vs. Urawa Reds and another six in the 0-0 draw against Monterrey. Also, vs. Monterrey, they had no fewer than nine corners.
