Odds for Denmark to win
Denmark reopened in November 2020 at +6,600 to win the tournament on the Euro 2020 odds board. They have received significant market support in the time since and have shortened to odds of +2,800.
Here’s how Denmark’s odds to win the tournament have looked over the last eight months, as compared to the other tournament contenders.
Denmark team preview
There are few negatives regarding this Danish team. Their World Cup campaign was terrific and was only thwarted by Croatia in penalties during the Round of 16. They steamrolled the competition in qualification for Euro 2020 and have notched notable victories against England, Switzerland, and Iceland in the last calendar year.
Captain Simon Kjaer headlines the formidable backline. The veteran has more than 100 caps and has been a leader at the back for more than a decade. In front of him is Christian Eriksen who commands the middle of the field and acts as the creative link between back and front, working with Martin Braithwaite.
If there is one uncertainty, it is the manager. Kasper Hjulmand has been at the helm for just four competitive matches. His managerial resume gives little to go off at this level either. The one thing that is certain is the team will set up tactically to maximize the talent of Christian Eriksen. Whether that is a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, all of Hjulmand's tactics will play through his attacking midfielder.
Danish player to watch
Name: Martin Braithwaite
Age: 29
Position: Winger
As important as Eriksen is to the success of Denmark, he and Martin Braithwaite are priced at an equal 80/1 for top goalscorer at Euro 2020. This might surprise some bettors considering Braithwaite has yet to score in major tournament competitions. However, we saw him emerge at the 2018 World Cup as a go-to option, and now two years into playing for Barcelona and honing his skills alongside Leo Messi — the best ever at his position — this event could be the coming-out party for Braithwaite. Bet on him for anytime goalscorer markets each match during the group stages.
Player prop to bet: Braithwaite anytime goalscorer markets for individual matches
Denmark prediction
Best bet: Denmark to make the quarterfinals (+137)
It is difficult to ignore the odds movement from +6,600 to +2,500. The betting market clearly sees the upside and experience, but Denmark also has the built-in advantage of playing all three of their games in Copenhagen. The Danes will almost certainly make it out of the groups, but the duration of their run will be determined by their new manager and how he navigates matches against elite competition. The two losses for Denmark in the past year came against Belgium. The third rematch will be on June 17th. Win that one, and Denmark may just run into the final four. Bet Denmark to make the quarterfinals at odds of +137.
