We’ve got more FIFA Club World Cup action on Tuesday with Dortmund and Monterrey meeting in Atlanta.

The German side are favorites but they’ve had a mixed tournament so far, which is why my Dortmund vs. Monterrey predictions have Der BVB scoring Under 1.5 goals.

Borussia Dortmund vs Monterrey picks and predictions

My Borussia Dortmund vs Monterrey best bet: Dortmund Under 1.5 goals (+100 at bet365)

Monterrey haven’t been exceptional at the FIFA Club World Cup, but there’s a real chance for them to get the win here, and that starts with Dortmund's offensive struggles.

Monterrey have kept two clean sheets and allowed just onegoal, with Lautaro Martinez managing to score for Inter in their 1-1 draw to open up their tournament. Since then, we’ve seen Monterrey keep out both River Plate and Urawa Red Diamonds.

It goes without saying that Dortmund have better attackers than either of those two teams, but they’re not looking that dangerous either and can’t be relied upon to score lots of goals.

A stronger second half of the season saw Dortmund rescue their league campaign to an extent, as they clinched the fourth spot and a place in next season’s Champions League. However, they finished 25 points behind the Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich, which shows how big the gulf between the clubs has grown. A relatively successful run in Europe also papered up the cracks with the team managing to get further than they should have.

In the opposition box, it’s been a bad season for Dortmund’s players with the exception of Serhou Guirassy. The Guinean has had an incredible debut season for Die Schwarzgelben since transferring from Stuttgart last summer with 21 goals in Bundesliga and a further 13 in the Champions League.

But aside from the 29-year old striker, no other player managed to score double-digit goals in the league, and of the two players who were closest behind, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Maximilian Beier, the former is in the process of moving to Chelsea and is unlikely to feature in this game.

So with Dortmund struggling for goals outside of Guirassy, it’s bad news that they now face a team with back-to-back clean sheets, especially when Dortmund have scored Under 1.5 goals themselves in two of their three group games.

The exception to this was their 4-3 win over Mamelodi Sundowns. However, that game played perfectly into their hands. The South African team took the lead but continued to play in a gung-ho style, allowing Dortmund to score four goals in a row before the Sundowns forced a tight finish with two more goals of their own.

If the Sundowns had played more conservatively in that game, they wouldn’t have allowed Dortmund so many opportunities. Given what we’ve seen of Monterrey so far, we are likely to see a far tighter, cagier, defensive display.

Through three games, the Mexicans have allowed just 10 shots on target, which is two fewer than Dortmund themselves have allowed.

Borussia Dortmund vs Monterrey same-game parlay (SGP)

Dortmund Under 2 goals

Monterrey Under 2 goals

Jobe Bellingham to commit 1+ fouls

Dortmund haven’t been at their best in the past 12 months, but they’ll still be a tough challenge defensively, and Monterrey are unlikely to score multiple goals for the second time in four games at this tournament.

Jobe Bellingham made just his second start in the 1-0 win over Ulsan. He is similar to his brother Jude in many ways, with the same inclination to make rash challenges.

He committed a foul against Ulsan and given the importance of this game, and the fact he’ll be started, he should commit another one.
